          for me i use shotted floats not self cockers

          like these in 4 x 12 for around 2 to 4 foot and heavier ones for deeper

            The problem with self cocking floats and paste is the float picks up surface skim very easily as there is little weight down the line to counter it. You find the hook is pulled out of the paste as a result. Even in the edge you will experience this on SC floats.
            I used to use a bulk about 18 inches from the hook in say 6 to 8 feet of water, only going closer in shallower water. I now used strung bulk of 8s or 9s and floats of 0.6 or 0.8g.
            Pencil floats too offer superior presentation as they pick up less tow due to a slimmer body.
