For proper shallow fishing a generic rig for me would consist of 0.15 hooklength with a size 16 fox 2 plus a small dibber of some sort or a polyball if really shallow. i prefer to use no weight down the line and if you can, use a float so small that the pellet sinks it and use the buoyancy to slow the fall of the pellet for the last few inches.

I’ve also had success with double hair rigged pellet, with the first one on the hair being a floater to slow the fall down again.

As for elastics, I’d think that double solid 8, 13H or Grey Hydro would be fine unless there are quite a few of the larger fish around in which case go up one size.

Interesting! I prefer a heavier float like 4 x 12 and normally use 0.20mm mainline and a 0.18mm hooklength to aFox series 2 size 20 eyed barbless tied with a knotless knot and a 3.2mm latex band on the hair, 6mm from the hook. I would use a 14 to 16 solid elastic and place all the shot directly under the float and tend to slap if fishing less than 18 inches deep and tap when deeper, if allowed. I always use the same pellet on the hair as I’m feeding and normally for proper carp it’s 6mm, 4mm for F1s and sometimes 8mm can work for more splash.

              My choice is.

12-14 latex or solid elastic with a 0.18 mainline and 0.16 trace most of the time. Hook is mostly a 14 Drennan Carp with a 3.2mm hair rigged bait band for 6-8mm pellet hook bait.

Float is my own XTD dibber the smaller size for short lining taking 3 x no8 and the larger on a longer line taking 5 x no8. Thees are designed to make a good splash similar to a pellet when hitting the water! I will use these float when fishing up to 3ft deep with all the shot under the float.

Probably use 0.16 to a 16 Kamasan B911 and same floats and shotting and a 12 or 14 elastic. Have to use 0.18mm to a 16 Drennan Carp Feeder if really big fish or bagging.

Depends on the rules, lots of places ban this and if tapping is banned you can’t slap with no float. I agree it can be unbeatable but also not as enjoyable.
