        Ian Sutherland

Daiwa Gordon League’s Mark Gaylard won Saturday’s Wychavon Championship qualifier, from peg one at the top end of the match length. Mark made perch his target species, and opted to fish worms, casters and maggots on the pole. Alternating between a running through rig on a short pole line, and a flat float on the long pole, Mark managed 7lb exactly of chunky perch – which proved enough to win the 69 peg match!
In second place was Ian Sutherland from the downstream end peg – 87. Ian fished maggot feeder two thirds of the way across the river, taking a good sized hybrid, and plenty of chunky perch for a 6-14-0 total.
In third place was Sensas WB Clarke rod, Steve Pallett. Drawn on peg 23, Steve caught a run of decent perch on a six metre whip, before switching to maggot feeder, and catching several more perch and a good eel.

        Steve Pierpoint
        Barry Blakemore
        Mark Gaylard

Sunday’s Shakespeare Championship Qualifier proved a very close affair, with just an ounce and a half separating the top three places. Veteran Avon angler Steve Pierpoint took the honours, with a 5-5-0 net from peg two. Expecting a tough match, Steve targeted the rivers small fish population on the pole, catching gudgeon at six metres, and bleak shallow at 11 metres. After an intense five hours fishing, Steve tipped 5lb 5oz onto the scales, to win the match by the narrowest of margins.
Ever consistent Leigh Gardner took second spot, with a 5-4-0 net from peg 32. Leigh alternated between stick float fished down the nearside bank, and maggot feeder across to the far side of the river, to finish with a nice net of perch and eels.
Saturdays winner, Mark Gaylard managed to qualify for both finals in just two days, finishing third in the match and securing a place in the Shakespeare Final. After a few early perch from down the margins, Mark got his head down and targeted the rivers bleak population. Fishing 11m from the bank with maggots and pinkies, Mark recorded 5-3-8, to round off a very profitable weekend!
