Just bought some Shimano Aspire Line and was told it is the same as the old Antares, got home and noted the old packet for 0.12 says 1.86kg / 4.1 lb breaking strain, but the Aspire 0.12 says 1.80kg/4lb breaking strain, I know thats not alot of difference, but that says to me it isn’t the same stuff. Anyone else noticed a difference when using it?
        Cheers

There was a post about this when it first came out and the general thought that it was not a patch on the old stuff. I used it and found I was loosing fish to breakages that I wouldn’t of lost on the original line. Shame they discontinued it was one of the best monos around IMO

I found the same as thedog……

Had more breakages and thus lost fish on the same dia of line that I had used for the same type of fishing / venues on the old line (thought it was maybe just a bad batch to start with)…

Lost confirdance with the new one and switched to Browning Cenex and now wouldn’t go back.

Thx for the update guys i cannot understand companies who change stuff that is already right and selling well, to go and ruin it.
The Garbo line looks very good strength for 0.12 – 4lb 6oz, yet Clark Team Match is 0.14 at 4lb 6oz, their 0.12 is only 3.3lb thats a big difference.
Think I will have to try them and see.

                Dont believe the label!!!
Line is one of those items of tackle where you have to find out for yourself.
Personally I tend to use the Guru line and occasionally the Preston stuff, powerline, which is well over its stated diameter by the way.
Check out Trabucco elite too, its outragiously overstated on BS allegedly they got lbs and Kilos mixed up making it about half as strong as it is claimed to be.
If in doubt the diameter is a better guide to its BS than what it says it is.

I have been using the aspire since september last year and i have found it to be a fantastic line. I did read the previous thread regarding the breakages that people had been having and touch wood i havent experienced any problems. I have only been using it on the canal in very low diameters and on commercials upto 0.12 and i must admit i am very impressed.

I will let you know what my thoughts are after I have tried it on the tidal trent. If it can cope with the hammer it gets on there then it will cope anywhere.

I have used antares for a number of years and have started to use aspire. I think that there is a significant difference between the two. The aspire is ok on the pole but i suffer kinks, line twits and breakages on feeder hooklengths and straight lead and pellet waggler hooklengths. not happy
