The start of the final Sunday Evesham Championship Qualifier was greeted by a torrential downpour of rain, which caused the river to rise by a couple of inches in the space of just half an hour!
The extra water did the fishing no harm at all however, as the venues prolific roach stocks fed in earnest. Coming out on top was Drennan backed England International, Simon Willsmore. Drawn on peg 84, Simon caught good stamp roach on bloodworm fished over a bed of groundbait and joker.
In second place from peg five at the opposite end of the match length to Simon, was Preston ace Ed Warren. Again, Ed caught quality roach, though unlike Simon, Ed caught the bulk of his fish on hemp, which he fed over the top of his bloodworm line on the long pole.
Ever consistent Matt Godfrey secured third position with 11-4-0 from peg 20. Matt caught a nice net of small roach and bleak, which he added to later in the day with three good hybrids, that he caught fishing pinkies over his bloodworm line.
The river is now closed until the Bank Holiday weekend, with the exception of the Evesham Veterans Championship on Wednesday, 26th August.
