After a commercial banned my way of fishing after 16 yrs of Loyalty I was a tad upset !! But now I cannot thank them eneough for making me see the light and realising the fantastic opportunities of great fishing to be had all over . Once out of the comfort zone and back to having to master not one but many angling disciplines I have rediscovered the enjoyment of proper matchfishing . For a while it was difficult returning to fine line and small hooks . A major hurdle was to not expect to catch such huge weights but that rights itself . Meeting some old friends of years gone by has been an added bonus . My results are now on the up and I am now fishing amongst some great anglers including England internationals who have given me support and help in getting back . Soon the fantastic Riverfest series starts . All sold out . Be assured there is a great alternative out there but it may take a kick up the arse to make you!! Many thanks ! 😉

😉 😉 52 now and still haven’t felt i’m missing anything that a commercial can offer
corner pegs ,End Pegs, Margins, two hundred pound bags of fish, big hooks strong laggies .Yes there are some very good commercial anglers and i take my hat off to them
I will fish commercials in the winter for the silverfish but my last winter’s campaign on the stainy ,Town welland and the canals have seen me catch in the region 80lb of roach perch little skimmers and a few brown envlopes so while i can still walk and breath i’m not going to change and this year should be even better River fest ,river soar Masters ,winter league and canal Masters all on natural venues how good is that 😉 😉

I never said anything about boring me, I actually find it quite amusing how you can bang on about the same thing over and over again!

                    LOL

I hear Warburtons share price have dropped dramatically since your ban

‘Once out of the comfort zone and back to having to master not one but many angling disciplines I have rediscovered the enjoyment of proper match-fishing..’ .

so presumably you weren’t ‘proper match fishing’ for the previous 16 years by your own account then?

your’re undoubtedly have a peer regarded successful track record on all waters but to start knocking commies just because of your disagreement does seem more than a little self-justification?
Many match-anglers fish both quite contentedly or either – surely they are all equally valid ‘proper’ match-fishing in its various forms.

Wright angler I had no disagreement with them ! They just banned my feed bait while I had been away fixing my house then on holiday at whiteacres I was told . At TB through summer I fished 4 shallow rigs and mashed bread feed . O16 line and a size 10 hook for 6 yrs !! . On reflection I don’t think that was proper more like conveyer belt stuff . I had some great yrs on commercials and I certainly respect the talent of many great exponents of all kinds of methods . My point is how difficult it can be to revert to fine lines .balanced tackle. And river fishing . Ok a few can do it all but not many . There does seem to be less bitching on the new circuit that i visit. We had a great crack on the Meadowlands silver league . 😮

TIm D you obviously don’t know me too well because warburtons cost far too much . Tesco value if I had to pay . Better still beg for it from cafés or delis or out of the bins after dark !! Best to get permission first !! 😀

Good effort. There must be other venue out there that would respond to your method, have you ventured away from TB to try it??

Tim it will work anywhere there is huge stocks of F1s . I got a win at Larford .,, A few at Manor farm leisure . But the atmosphere when I arrived on new venues always felt strained . Breads banned was usually the greeting from the first idiot . At Snitterfield near Sratford the boss whome I had never met asked me if I really did use 20 loaves ? And he would have to limit me . It was middle of winter on a silvers match !! So I gave up and decided to see if a return to mostly non carp type waters would reserect my matchfishing appetite . Riverfest was the first blessing . Mixing with some top top matchmen and old friends has been great . I will certainly fish commercials again but I m enjoying getting around with a bit of rod and line thrown in . 🙂

fair point Paul, glad you enjoying rivers again,
got to say no way i could even make it as far as a style these days – still at least the air ambulance has a field to land in…

down here we’re probably mainly silvers/naturals due to lack of any proper commies – but the only bonus fish that have fed consistently the last 2 seasons have been …carp. Think the black death must have scared the skimmers into changing their feeding habits – though hopefully they’l be off to sea soon.
