Yes you can, just as long as your not leaving a baited rig out there while spodding.

Brilliant way of feeding a lot of bait quickly where allowed. If you are going to have a go, buy a spomb which is quicker than a traditional spod, flies very well and with zero bait spillage. You will need a carp rod though and at least 12lb mono (or even better 30lb braid) to avoid crack offs.

                tunnel topper

first saw this done on a flooded r.trent in the late 70s. instead of a spod he used a feeder to get loose feed to the bottom on his stickfloat line. he only caught small fish to come second if i can remember, with my dad winning with one chub.

purists may say that was not spodding but the end result is the same. just make sure you take your hooked rig is taken out of the water

first,as pointed out by bag up.

                  good luckwith it.

before you start spodding check the rules/organiser that you can and not breaking any rules(and you’ll always upset some idiot)…i use to do a lot and still do for bream and for carp, but the thing is with us match boys and the size of fish we target don’t worry to much if you not bang on the penny every cast…in other words spread the bait a round alittle other wise you’ll attract to many fish and be plagued with liners and foul hookers..tackle wise as written.~shh

ive been using a mini spod for my bream fishing using a 2ib test rod 10lb line .the spod is about the size of 5 large feeders and is a good way of getting a good bed of bait out at the start of a match or session
