When would you choose a spring eye over a side eye? How much do you beleive the presentation is compromised?

Personally i dont like the way that floats with spring eyes sit in the water so its side eyes all the way for me. I find a float sits much better with a side eye as it allows the line to get down below the surface film.

I dont use either to be honest. I just varnish the float and use rubbers top and bottom.

You are spot on steve, also some of the spring eyes tend not to be to secure, bet you dont want to be on peg 34 on the pump bank again this Sunday steve, crap peg in the summer, mind you that whole section is hard, saying that mushy did ok.

Spring eyes for strength and side eyes for finesse. As Steve says a side eye will allow you to “read” droppers settling better because the eye and line can be submerged by the bulk or spread bulk shot. It is also better to use floats where the side eye is fitted a little way down from the top of the body. However for summer carping the spring eye is stronger and as long as a decent length of tip is fitted a reasonable compromise between strength and sensitivity can be obtained.

Snagger, ill be on the near bank again this week!! Mushy got it spot on last week by fishing as he did. Can see a lot adapting their tactics over there this week as i dont see many Carp coming out to play.

                  TF_Nigel.

All my carp rigs are on springs now. (0.20 line) and all other rigs are normal side eyes.

You always seem to pull the eye out using them for carp, and they are scrap by the end of a match! Just springs for me now.

Do you feel that has an advantage over using eyes?
