TF_thesaintNo doubt about it the best stick float rod in the Normark Titan 2000 14ft…Amazing..Soft tip enables you to fish with a 8oz bottom, yet stiff enough to deal with those bullish chubb. Although expensive, worth ever penny, trust me!

TF_GUS ENormark Tricast Preston Drennan Daiwa Shakespeare Shimano Garbolino all produce rods that are ok for stick float.
Biggest problem is finding decent stick floats. -

TF_dave brittaintake a look at the Shakespeare Superteam LXL 21-16ft or 13-17ft rod. I bought the 12-16ft before my sponsorship deal with Shakespeare as I thought that the rod was that good at 16ft and at around £100 I don’t think that there’s a better rod for the money.

TF_streamlineJust bought another Spectron 13′ spliced tip rod from Leegem Angling ( via eBay ). A right bargain as it is a beautiful rod OK not as good at the Tournament but still very good.
It carries an RRP of £229, and is IMHO worth that money although you can get one for about £120.

TF_One Out of the FrameOriginal Dave Harrell’s 13′ ST’s (on the Harrison blank) or the spliced tip Daiwa’s for me!
You can get the Dave Harrell’s for a song on eBay occasionally (£12 or £15 my cheapest!).

TF_chaveyParticipantThe Garbolino super G light is a Billiant rod for just over £100. I use the Normark titan 2000’s but if I had to chose a modern Rod it would be the super G light every time

TF_FBluesDrennan DRX Ultralight14ft is the best rod I have ever used for fishing the stick. The Titan and all spliced tip rods are OK if you use barbed hooks, but I promise you will lose lots of fish on them if you use barbless. They are designed to be ‘failsafe’ because as the stick float comes out of the water, pressure on the hook hold is magnified and the spliced tip (and the very soft tip of the Titan) bounces because of the extra stiffness lower down the blank, cushioning that extra pressure. I discovered this through hours of practice in the 1980s with spliced tip Normark NMRB150, the 12’6″ spliced tip rod. I couldn’t work out why until I really concentrated on every fish and as the float came out, the fish came off. I was using Mustad 90340 originals, then Cannelle 1217Bs when the plastic boxed Mustad arrived and the quality fell away. (I even found out the technical reason for that too, but that’s another story). I found the need to change barbed hooks so often, when the barb pushed out on one use of a disgorger and kept bursting the bait and refusing to stay in a fish, that barbless were essential and that they and spliced tip (and soft tip/hard middle) rods were incompatible.

TF_One Out of the FrameNever had a problem using barbless hooks and the 13′ ST’s but tend to use B510’s or B610’s.
I wouldn’t describe the ST’s as “soft tip/hard middle” though as they literally will bend all the way to the corks if pushed!

TF_orexinaThe 13ft Drennan stick float is a supurb rod for catching roach on the stick. Lovely action. Will hold onto decent sized chub as well.
