Watched Thinking Tackle on sky last night and they had a carp angler on showing how to make Stick Mixes.

        The ingredients were

3 different types of dynamite groundbait
        hailbut oil
        anchovies
        shrimp paste
        tinned salmon
one more liquid from dynamite (but cant rember what is was)

he mixes these all together in a blender and leaves in a plastic bag overnight to let the groundbait absorb the oil and other ingredients. The result is a slightly damp mix that holds together with a slight squeeze.

When fishing this mix he fills PVA web to about the size of a tea bag and fishes a popped up bait

Apparently this is deadly winter bait for carp

They also showed a stick mix made from crushed white boilie

Has anyone tried this on a commercial as an alternative to the tea bag or even tried it as a ball of feed on the pole line

        your thoughts are much appreciated

low oil is the key to a stick mix in winter imo, only use hemp oil in winter, salt instead of anchovies as i use tinned tuna.one tin with brine and one with oil. mix well with terry hearns the source stick mix ,mix ground bait in to dry it out so it dose not melt pva.had 2 or 3 pieces of corn in when making the stick.job done.

this is my winter carp fishing stick mix as i always fish a sweetcorn hookbait, bloody tench and bream wont leave it alone.

How long does it take for the PVA melt. Is it best to make up the bags as you fish or could you make them up the night before?

I am probably totally wrong, but what a palava!! Whenever Ive messed about a bit with this sort of thing in the past, most of it either ended up in the bin or it went mouldy in my carryall.

I will probabaly come to the same conclusion when I try it. The white boilie mix looked good in the water though

Another thing last night. The angler caught a 17lb common on the stick mix but wth a popped up cork ball on the hair (not coloured or flavoured) wots all that about

Sorry, I didnt mean to put you off by being negative its just that carp anglers tend to go to all sorts of lengths to get an edge, and I am not sure its always that necessary. With regards to the cork ball, just goes to show that when the mood takes them, carp will have a go at just about anything, I have caught them on a bare hook before.lol

imo, make my stick mix up in the kitchen and put it in a bait tub, use pva that melts quit quick i have been using fox, have not tryed the guru yet but they say it is faster melting.cork balls are often used to fish a paste hook bait on the hair so you can make it look like a boilie or a pellet and pop it up off the bottom, the paste stays on better when using 2 to 3 oz leads.cork balls fished on there own can give a edge same as any fake baits when fishing is tough carp will pick them up same as they will pick a hook up with no bait .i make my stick up just before i cast or you finish up with a pva mess due to the dampness of the stick mix. i dont use boilies but you can break them up and add to stick mix or just fish them in pva. shelf life boilie take a lot of breaking down in water. frozen boilies are better so i am told by our kid who is a bivvy boy.

hope this is of some help
