TF_Johnny MacAnyone know what happened yesterday? A few lads I know turned up at 8.30 yesterday, like they do EVERY week (including through the winter), to be told that there was already 86 people on, the match was full and they couldn’t fish!!! How can a match on a 100 peg lake be full if there are only 86 on??? How can people that have supported the fishery all year be turned away??
They went to Brookside instead, don’t know if they’re going back to Partridge??

TF_DodgeIts always first come first served at weekends at Partridge, if you try to book on they just tell you to turn up ….. not ideal with big attendances practicing for fisho q and maver pairs.
60 is too many anglers for coveys !

AnonymousGood job i went direct to Brookside for a change of venue. 3rd with 59lb and a nice day out. I was shocked to see some of the lads at Brookside who i have seen for the last 3 months at Partridge. Some where not very happy at being turned away from Prtridge at 8.30 AM.
I cannot understand why there was more open match anglers at Partridge after the Fisho qualifier than before. I was expecting less anglers now that those who where practicing in the opens over the last few weeks for the fisho had gone on to other venues. Maybe some of the new anglers that turned up believed that there would be easier pickings now that some of the fisho anglers have stopped fishing partidge.
Guess its an 8AM arrival to get a peg now!
Dodge, it fishes better as a match venue if there is no space. So, no big advantage to anybody. The fish have no where to go but in to other anglers pegs. If there is space because of empty pegs. The fish go there and makes the matches very peggy. Space between pegs also makes a mockery of the sections. There is nothing more annoying in my opinion than having anglers in my section but miles away from me. The idea of sections in open matches is to make things fair as possible and give anglers something to fish for. If not drawn is a better area of a lake by giving similar conditions/area of a lake to fish. Spacing anglers out just creates a lottery and make even winning sections more difficult because of fliers created by the draw. It might fish harder but much fairer with every peg in use. If you want to catch more fish. Go pleasure fishing!

TF_OggyThe Fisho has gone but there is still the Maver pairs next week and the supercup semi in 3 weeks.
Does seem a strange system to me but it does stop people booking on and not turning up. Thats no help to the guys that got turned away though. Just think if you had travelled a long way and not got a peg. ~think

TF_MarkTSurely it would be better to have a booking system, if people don’t turn up then they don’t come back. Simple. In the end if they keep up doing what there doing then there eventually going to lose customers.

AnonymousMight be easier for the fishery to say that those who fished the open the week before have until 8.45 to arrive and pay there pools money. A peg is reserved for those anglers who fished last week. Then after 8.45 those wanting a peg can book in. Its those anglers who attend the opens week after week for months who should have priority on pegs and should never be turned away. Its bad for the fishery if it loses some of those anglers as when those attending the opens to practice for the likes of the Maver or Fisho have gone. There would not be quality open matches if the fishery loses its regulars.

TF_respectAs a Partridge regular over the last 5/6 weeks i agree with the irregular pegging at some of the matches,ie, putting peg 1 in(decent peg) and leaving out peg 2(good peg)then putting in peg 3 (crap),now those that do the pegging should have an idea by now what pegs should go in the draw bag to give anglers the best chance of at least winning the section,To turn match anglers away is just daft if you ask me.
Another situation that occured on the fisho was that peg 4 was in (on covey 1)then you go round the corner, peg 5 and peg six were left out, an angler drew on peg 7,peg 8 was left out then you have another corner, peg 9 was in and then me on peg 10,my gripe is that the bloke on peg 7 was pleasure fishing with masses of room, peg 8 is a very good peg in it own right and has won its fair share of opens in the last few weeks so how has this happened??
I know that the match was fully suscribed because my mate couldn`t get on??Now dont get me wrong Partridge is a fantastic fishery and its about time the North West had a quality match venue, all it takes is a bit of common sense and a tweaking of the pegging policy to be even better.

TF_Mikey .J.Definitely dont agree with that “it’s better when every peg is taken rubbish’
Heard that on so many venues, but the results always speak for themselves. Places fish better with less anglers on. Fact.

I heard a very good angler drew peg 6 on the fisho and chose not to fish!

TF_Mikey .J.Have to agree with dodge. It may make it a more level playing field having every peg taken but it also makes the fishing absolutely dog shite. It’s the same everywhere. The more space the better.

TF_Tricast27They had a bit of room on yesterday’s open!!!
Peg 50 won with 111lb there were two 91lb’s couple of 80lb’s
Tricky won his match on covey 1 with 63lb single corn over a mobile phone was the best method~think

TF_NW Cut AnglerI have no opinion on the venue in question but I would temper the notion space = better fishing. If you leave an area of a fishery unfished / out of bounds the fish will be there etc I think if you do leave space then 2 in 1 missed is the best option. Equally in winter when the fish are tight as then it can be better to have 2 or 3 anglers at least in with a chance of winning.
No need for the anger etc BTW I like reading both Dodge and TB’s opinions / views.

TF_Johnny MacThat’s right Tricast27, Si Beswick had 111lb yesterday, he had that much room it was like pleasure fishing.

TF_respectThats why peg 4 won the section and peg 7 was second,i ran them close though from a properly pegged area, only being 4 lb behind, lol.
I think every angler should go to there peg and fish the match, weather it be a good peg or bad peg, in my opinion they are being disrespectful to the competition.
Too many anglers spit out there dummies nowadys, only joking Roger, lol.

I agree, peg 6 is actually a very good peg with some form, easily capable of winning covey 1 but probably not the fisho

TF_TubestationI have to agree with trueblue … I think it would be fairer if all pegs were in . ok the weights might not be as high …. but it might make the match fairer

TF_TubestationAnd on the other note I would of been pissed off to be turned away .. I am there most sundays, and a lot of thursdays…. Even throughout the winter when the johnny come latelies was no where to be seen

01/06/2010 at 7:51 pm #106304
Lazy AlI also agree with TB, obviously the weights will be lower but it might make everyone improve and become better anglers for it,and then the best angler will win not just some average angler who had 3 spare pegs either side of him.
Every peg is on in canal matches!!
By the way how many fish do people want to catch!!!

TF_HillbillyNever been to Partridge but my observation of pegging on most commies I visit is that if the pegs were spaced correctly in the first place then every peg in would be no problem. I often find that if every peg is used there is little chance of catching down the edge because the next anglers either side are very close. On the other hand if every other peg is used or peg two miss one then an un drawn peg can give someone a potentially massive advantage.
