A study is underway to find out about the impact of anglers moving between venues on the spread of fish diseases such as Koi Herpesvirus (KHV) and Spring Viraemia of Carp (SVC).

The survey is being carried out by government agency CEFAS, who are hoping to shed light on the level of risk posed by anglers’ wet nets in particular.
A CEFAS spokeswoman said: “Our online survey (found at http://goo.gl/IDHntK) only takes a few minutes to complete and asks no personal questions. The information we receive could help safeguard fish, and the sport, in the future. So it’s in anglers’ interest to take part.
“We also hope to use the information to update our advice for anglers, to help them to protect fisheries from disease.”
The survey will close on 31 March 2014.
Total-Fishing.com understands work is also underway to introduce a new generation of nets to the angling world that could help dramatically cut the risk of anglers spreading fish killing bacteria on nets.

I’ve done this – takes less than five mins.

I gave up – it seemed to be only interested in commercial fisheries.

He gave up it only seemed to be interested in commercial fisheries!!! Isn’t the survey about the spread KHV & SVC? Isn’t that related to carp which are predominantly stocked in commercial fisheries??

I did it as well but was surprised they never asked whether we as anglers thought it was worth while dipping nets. Its been known for many years that dipping nets doesn’t work. The dipping tanks have to be up dated daily and nets need to be dipped for at least 20mins. Also putting non rinsed nets back into the water is not a good idea.

I guess they will be taking that if you dip then you think it’s worthwhile but I guess you could also say if it was voluntary would they?
What I want to know is where are these diseases coming from, pretty sure they are coming from outside you UK but how?

I think it’s more about ‘will anglers dip nets’.
Personally I think it’s good they are taking an interest but there you go, each to his own.
