If the reflection on the water you were fishing in front of you went dark, light, dark, light etc what colour float tip would you choose.

Difficult one as it depends on a persons eyes to a large degree. I find red works best for me but others will disagree.

I remember Joff coming up with the definitive answer on this. It does depend upon your eyesight and I can’t remember which it was but long and short sighted people generally find either yellow or orange easier to see and vice versa.

Where it keeps changing then yellow or orange will be better than black but a thicker tip than normal will help and a hollow one will work even better.

It is hard and with so many varying factors to consider, I nearly always opt for yellow or black sights.A good option that may help you is to have some good quality coloured (red, yellow and black) silicone sleeve. You can then cut say some black silicone and place this over your yellow sight bristle when the light conditions require you to do this and vice versa etc. Bare in mind that you might need to adjust your shotting very slightly if you are dotted down to just a pimple but I find this very useful in my own fishing. MAP sell this silicone in packs designed for the job. Hope this helps…Jonny.

red for me in the dusk and white and black zebra stripes in the light to dusk on the tip, but thats just me as i have a thyroid problem that has started effecting my eyes, cant see floro yellow at the moment, dont understand it to be honest. i have blacked out my yellow floats or put tubing over them,so now i only buy floats in red and orange lol
