The football fan was eagerly awaiting the biggest match of the season and sat in his favourite stadium seat watching the match preamble. The stadium was packed for such an important game yet next to him was a single empty seat.
Curious, he leaned over the gap and spoke to the next spectator, an sad-looking fan. “It’s a shame to see an empty seat at this big game,” he said, “when there are bound to be people who would like to see it but can’t get a ticket.”
“Yes,” said the man, ” but you see that seat was for my wife. We have followed this club since we were children and bought tickets for this match months and months ago. Unfortunately, she died last week so she can’t be here.”
“I am so sorry to hear that. But … why didn’t you give the ticket to one of your kids, or a relative.”
“I would have done, but they’re all at the funeral.”
