I know you can get a couple of different hook tiers such as the sensas pierotti etc. But how do you tie your hooklengths to fit into a wooden hooklength box without such a tool?

Cheers for the replys! I was just wondering how i’d tie them all exactly the same length (to the last mm) so they wouldn’t slip off the nails in my hooklength box. I suppose I could tie my hook first, hook it to one end of the hooklength box, wrap the other end of my hooklength around the nail at the other end and tie a loop with the sensas loop tiers.

No more making up hooklengths as I go along 🙂

David, I do exactly what you suggest and it works perfectly. I also set the nails in my hooklength box at exactly the same width as one of the front drawers of my box. That way, if I have to tie up a hooklength quickly on the bank, I have a swift reference point to make sure that it is (more or less) spot on.

Yeah if you use the Sensas loop tyer (which I don’t, but should) you get a nice strong loop knot.
For silver fish work you can get away with a single overhand loop, but for big fish the line will (can) snap at the loop if you use a single overhand loop.
You know what? I’ve never seen anyone tying the figure of eight loop correctly in a programme or in diagrams online. Even Bob Nudd gets it wrong. The key to it is to take the loop around the mainline 2.5x, that way you get a figure of eight BELOW the loop. Tied like this, the knot is unbelivably strong.
