Im going to have a crack at making some wire stem floats for carp fishing, I want to make something like a chimp but with a beefier wire stem a 0.8mm, has any body tried 0.8mm in 0.3 0.4 floats and if so does it compromise the shotting too much – hence why everyone uses 0.5 & 0.6mm. Whats your thoughts thanks Anthony

I think you’ll find that 0.8mm will give you a self cocking float in my opinion, possibly try 0.6mm.I make my own floats at the moment and end up making one or two of the patterns I want with different stems and tips just to see how they perform once made.

That’s what I’m thinking Paul I think 0.6 is a little thin but I can see the reasoning behind using it, I’m going to have a play about with 0.8 and maybe compromise a little length to account for the extra weight and maybe add 2mm hollow tips I will keep you all posted – I love tinkering with floats

I did the same mate .8 stem on a .5g body and it was a self cocker spot on for paste with nothing down the line 🙂

😮 I fear I may have to order some o.6 I will use the o.8 for meat shallow floats

0.8 mm wire stem Is no good, well its not good for making full size floats .8 gauge is too heavy I have discovered ! but on a positive note its made some tidy little snake lake floats for fishing across they look great they sit instantly great for lifting and dropping corn etc there only 60mm in overall length and take 4 no 11 stotz … look
