Not sure of the lake names, but I assume you are after info on the snake lake as the specimen lake is residents only…I think.
The snake lake is excellent. Loads of carp from 2-12lb…probably averaging 4-5lb. They are just waking up and slowly starting to spread out. The match last week was won with 80lb and all the places were filled with end pegs. The lake is set out in lanes so there are often 4 no. end pegs on the open matches. There were some weights in the middle but the ends are dominating at the moment.
The pegs range from 14.5m to 20m wide with big gaps between the islands for chucking a feeder, wag or bomb. It looks bang on for fishing tight over with the pole where you can reach but to be honest this rarely wins. Lots of fish are being caught down the near and far ledges and as the water warms then the edges will really start to fire. Expect big fish…plenty of 8-10lbers. In summer fishing shallow will come into play in a big way. Where you can’t reach the far side with a pole then a method, banjo or bomb usuall catch a few fish early in a match before the other lines get going.
Baitwise…it is very simple. Pellets are a good base feed for most lines but meat catches loads of fish. Corn can compete somedays but meat is usually best. 4-6mm pellets for fishing shallow. Groundbait and dead maggots catch a lot of fish in the margins, but most baits go when the fish want to be feeding in the shallow water.
I am fishing the open this staurday and given the weather is warming up I would expect 100lb plus to win. If you are pleasure fishing head toward and end and you will catch lots.
Good luck
