I run my own shop and have had someone trying to pull a scam.
A man rings the shop saying he has had his van stolen with his
Kit in he says his insurance will pay for the van and work items
        But not the fishing kit.
He then said that he has £1500 to spend and needs it quick as he’s
Going fishing with his lad can he pay over the phone and get someone
        To pick it up.
He tried last Friday and then Today I have given his no to police
For more info you can phone me at shop 0116 2412633

You are not guaranteed the money when customer is not present
But should be by chip n pin.
There are more details but I have given them to police.
When I said you tried this last week he’s words were did t you fall
For it then He hung up all I want to do is warn others

So you think he has a stolen card?
Is there no protection for the retailer in this circumstance?

I run a small builders merchant and got caught a few years ago (before chip and pin) with about £3000 worth of power tools, the guy paid over the phone and sent a taxi to collect, I wasn’t there at the time and my staff released the goods, didn’t know anything was wrong until about 2 months later when I got a letter from the credit card company saying they wont honour the sale and nothing I could do. I get about 1 call a month with people asking for a price on 2 boilers or 50 sheets of ply (neither of which I could compete on price) paid for by phone and to be collected by someone else. Credit card companies aren’t interested although I believe there are different levels of cover dependent on your nature of business, mail order, internet selling etc, etc. but it is happening more and more in all industries

There was a lad on another site selling all his kit who fleeced a few customers in recent weeks.

I got done for two whiskers but was covered by paypal 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

I am also a tackle shop owner and have had the exact same scam tried on us yesterday. We are based in Solihull so it would appear that they are now targeting the Birmingham area 😡
