HOPEFULLParticipantA few weeks ago I was up bright and early one Sunday morning, as I was sat with a coffee my eldest (13) came down all bleary eyed about 6.30ish. I was going for a run out to find a venue I was fishing the week after and he said he would come. Had a drive out, found the place and had a drive round to a few venues near to it. Getting a bit peckish we had a drive to Lindholme for a buttie. While we were stood outside with a bap and a cuppa they were making the draw for the open. I pointed out to my son a multi world champion, womens world champion, another england squad member, a fishomania winner and another fishomania finalist, and not to forget the all time great that is John Allerton. There were probably more famous faces but I prob missed them. I shook my head and realised why I would NEVER enter an open there!!!!!!!

Aye, its daunting stood in that que with them all, Ive not fished many opens there but one thing I have found about all the Lindholme regulars, Alan & Sandra Scotthorne, John Allerton etc are very approachable and will tell you how they would approach any peg you draw and will help you out where ever they can. ~clap

TF_wildingukI would have thought decoy must be up there too, maybe not because of a long list of famous anglers who fish there, but the fields are always dominated by venue regulars. Those who fish matches there up to 3 times a week, and make a living out of it. If you ever check the results, the same names feature in the frame over and over again.

TF_CraftytaftyWhiteacres, you’re up against the biggest number of the best anglers in the country at one venue, it’s very diverse so you need to be adept at all methods.
Make a mistake or wrong decision there and you’re knackered -

TF_joffmiesterEASY WHITE acres when you look who fishes it all the above have there own venue experts and to beat these boys is very hard as they only fish one or two venues
white acres on the other hand pulls anglers from all over the country and is spread out on different lakes ~clap -

TF_GALPSI agree with Paste.
I too have started fishing a few opens on Bonsai with the superstars ( and getting battered every time ) but they are very approachable before and after the match.
If you fish in that sort of company, it may be hard to start with but you will learn so much more!!!!

TF_NW Cut AnglerA venue with lots of potential match winning pegs. Any venue the has very few winning pegs and the same ones win repeatedly is easier because the drawbag becomes as if not more im,portant than ability.

Daddy BParticipantDepends which way you look at things. You could argue that on a venue where the same couple of pegs always win, it is harder to win unless you are lucky enough to draw smack bang on the flyers.

TF_craigomust be lindholme
So many good anglers (not all professionals as such) and lots of pegs you can win from.
Lindholme has a strong midweek attendance with some anglers fishing several matches per week – this coupled with the fact that it’s mainly F1’s and how changable the venue is baitwise means your pretty much up against it – even as a reasonable angler.
theres lots of so called ‘professional’ anglers that would struggle to win a section at Lindholme against the 3/4x a weekers.
Only been to white acres once but it’s proper carp – an angler drawing on em can win a match – you could draw on a shedload of F1’s at lindholme but unless you are in touch with the venue you can end up knowhere – often by the time you’ve sussed it, your too far behind the regulars to catch up.

TF_JohnHLets face it none are easy!!
I was at W/A last week and have to say the standard of angler was the highest I have ever seen down there. No names just very good club/open anglers who would get murdered in a festival. The Rover top 5 were all off different lakes and fished different methods.
On the gold and silver its a bit easier to win, but not much, as all the winning weights were off Twin Oaks 1 low numbers, guess which way the wind was blowing? -

TF_Hopperjohn i was down there last week, did you go with the manchester/bolton lads ?

TF_JohnHNo Hopper just me and Gary my son. We fished the Gold in the dreadfull rain on Monday and both drew Acorn. This was the lake we tried to avoid as we knew T/O 1 was the place to be. In the Rover Gary drew 103 and I topped it with 108, I was told 120 fished so it was pretty bad for us. We thought our only chance was Trellawny as we had caught some margin lumps pleasuring, unfortunately we went in the 20s and had no space and the lumps came out on peg 11 who had several spare pegs. We avoided that side as we thought the caravan owners would drop on any spares to pleasure fish.
Overall the fishing was poor, as it was the week before I am told but we still enjoyed ourselves. The match weights look great but most struggled.
Not to worry we will be back.
I thought the improvements made to the pub were great BTW. Our lodge had also undergone a long overdue refit. -

TF_Hopperhiya john
i drew 78 on rover and got last peg on polly area i fancied but thought i was to far round.
i thought the fishing was very good though, had to have a day off friday coz i was aching haha.a think the pub looks nice but far to warm in there, no air con or windows to open with all them spotlights.
i probably seen you down there

TF_JohnHWhere did you fish on Polly as the winner was on 30 which is normally a bit too far round?
I fished Polly twice, peg 25 and peg 20 and it was very slow both times for me. Jennys was better but sadly for me no pegs left when I got to the front of the rover queue. -
15/06/2010 at 2:32 pm #107636
TF_JohnHSorry Tony just checked the result and you were the guy on 30!!!
Not bad off such a high draw.
I watched a pleasure angler on Saturday as we left fishing 30 on Polly and it was solid.
Both long and short. -
15/06/2010 at 2:34 pm #107637
TF_Hopperi was on 30 john, when i got to near front only 31 and 30 left, the lad who picked 76 got on 31 so i got on 30.
i fished peg 22 day before and caught well at 14.5m up in water but some lads had got in with a bivvy for rover, tried 16 on the satda and had 26 lumps out. -

TF_JohnHCongratualtions on your win, did you catch on pellet shallow?
Where ever I tried it I was roached out! -
15/06/2010 at 3:32 pm #107642
TF_Hopperyeah i had 8 on pellet up in water 14.5m and 14 on rod, had a few roach and hybrids in there aswell. a won it same week last year off 16.
do you go same week every year john ? -
15/06/2010 at 3:35 pm #107643
TF_GaryHopper, congrats on your win. I said to Dad (JohnH) on Wednesday evening that I fancied Polly for a shallow weight on the Rover, but my suggestion was summarily pooh-poohed and I was convinced to go on Trelawney instead! Good job that I got such a crap draw that I could not have got near Polly anyway or there would have been hell to pay!
We normally go down end of July/ early August, but opted for early June this year as none of us are tied to school holidays any more. It is actually much more pleasant going down there when the kids are at school, roads are quieter, etc! We are going back same week next year, so will probably see you there.
Agree with you about the pub being too warm, but it is definitely much better than it was before.
