TF_Paul EdwardsI know it’s a 1 in 130 chance anyway, but if you knew you couldn’t make the final beacause of other commitments, would you enter for the experience. I for one have entered the fisho qualifiers in the past for the experience and think I am a better angler because of it, and although still think I am your Mr average you never know on the day. But as the question above reads would you enter knowing that if you won, you would have to give your final place away?
Regards Paul

TF_Nigel.Even if it was your wedding day, you would be there, if you quliified, you would do anything to be there.
I arranged my wedding around the final in 2002, just in case, lol, then did manage to quilify the folowing year! One guy called Howard, decided he wasent going to fish the final (bottled it) when he won at Lindhole 3 years ago, letting Lee Kerry though to the final.

TF_tewtonI’ve not fished a qualifier before, is it a normal match with pools, top 3 and section money etc?
-

TF_Nigel.Yep, just a normal match, but the winner goes though to the final.

minnowmasterIm hoping to have a go at fishing the junior fish ‘o’. Theres always a chance of you winning you just need to keep possitive and try your best.

TF_daverobertsI always enjoy the fisho qualifiers and you kind of have to put winning the match out of your head to start with and concentrate on winning your section or lake first. For a lot the match is over at the draw but 130 pegs is a lot of pressure on any venue and strange things can happen.
At the end of the day it’s a 130 peg match and the section and mainlist payouts are very good so just picking up a section is very satisfying. The only downside is that the 10 peg sections are not defaulted so sometimes you don’t get the payout your performance deserves but if you main list your laughing.
As for not fishing the final itwould have to be something very serious to keep me away. I imagine you’re getting married or something.

TF_geepsterParticipantI wonder what rule is in place if the winner can’t make it – like you say it has happened. Presumbably, the second placed angler goes through???

TF_Nigel.Yes thats right Gareth, thats what happened at Lindholme, the only time its ever happend though.
Apart from Steve Ringer Winning, after he had allready quilified, the guy in second went though then too.I think thats the only time that has happend, of course if you quilify nowadays, you cant continue fishing quilifiers like you used to, so that wont happen again.

TF_yammaHow come they stopped you fishing once quallified, still a good big match to fish regardless.

TF_Nigel.You wouldent say that if you were the first reserve, and a guy was fishing that had already quilified!~think

TF_Paul EdwardsNot getting married, I have been married twenty plus years, unfortunately I booked our family hols without thinking. As I stated before I fish the qualifiers for experience and if I was to win (miracles happen) I would have some serious thinking to do, but although I love fishing my family always come first, so would have to forsake my place.

RustlerPerhaps Nigel should check his facts about Howard Langley’s failure to take up his place, I can assure he did not bottle it.

TF_Nigel.I actually spoke to Howard after the match, and he seemed very nervous that he had won, and told me he couldent fish the final as he had to work that day!~think

TF_dave brittainIf you qualify take your family with you to the final as it’s a brilliant night out after the live draw, followed by a day you will never forget.
If I’m fortunate enough to qualify again and my wife has inadvertantly booked our holiday when the final is on she’d cancel the holiday without a second thought.

TF_RhinoI’d have to say that only those willing and able to fish the final should apply – all venues are usually massively over subscribed with people who want a chance of getting to the final.
Nige – pity you were getting married and couldnt move it in 2003 as I would have had your spot!!!!!
As indicated above up until recently you could continue with qualifiers even if you had qualified – this suited many anglers as they are big matches and often the qualifiers’ travelling partner was still trying to get through – however tickets have been in much more demand in the last 4 years or so and I firmly believe it is right for forgoe your balance of tickets once qualified (I would be wanting to practice at Cudmore ASAP anyway!)

TF_poleanglerI would say its down to the individual, they’ve paid their money, managed to obtain a ticket through the lottery, beat the field on the day.
If some else had got their ticket they might not have drawn the same peg or beat all those fishing.
In the end your paying so you should decide what happens. What about if one of the qualifiers dies or is in an accident and can not attend the final?
