TF_DishyfishYep me again! Harping on about Willy. Im a little concerned, that all this talk about frozen lakes and the oxygen being sucked out of them will result in maybe loads of fish dying. For some who used to fish the London canals and canals in general. Breaking ice was a regular occurrence, and you knew once it had frozen over again and the match had finished there would be a boat come along, and break it up so the fish never suffered plus the tow from locks opening, it would never get that bad.
So back to Willy!! I take it there is not one single match being held there. So if this cold spell carries on who if any one would be smashing the ice or cutting holes for our fish to survive. I think you might have to guess only once ~think ~think

Pola Bearthe fish can live for ages under the ice… places like canda the fish are under thick ice all winter…

TF_teabagIf they wanted to smash the ice at Willy it would be very easy for them, they own a little digger and it would not take long to do every lake, or they could use the big JCB they have there which is digging the new lake out, the bucket on that one is massive.

TF_proper tidal boymaybe they could fill the BIG BUCKET WITH FISH AND FILL THE LAKE WITH IT only a suggestion lol

TF_teabagSorry lads, I phrased my last post a bit wrong,
When I said digging the new lake out, I meant it is a completly new lake being dug on the hill above Johns lake and below the Stock pond.

TF_DishyfishSorry Ben but Wayne2009 and Peter9000uk beat me to my reply. Willy is definitely shallower, and the lakes in Canada are spring fed or river fed. I know some one who go’s to Canada every year and have it on good authority that most of the lakes are like this.. The likes of Willy and other venues do have a greater stock level over a smaller area. Its just with everything else going on and wrong at Willy, they cant do with maybe more fish casualties. Im sure it wont come to that and the big thaw will start, and we can go fishing again but will we have any fish to catch.

TF_dingdongGood evening people.
Pellets could be the cause of this laying on the bottom of the lake covering the silt .
Thats what was said to me the other day,
If its true or not i don’t know.
The chap was saying the fish wont settle on the bottom if its cover in mankie pellets,
This is the first hard winter for such a long time ..~think ~think ~think . -

20/01/2010 at 4:24 pm #89921
TF_teabagDishyfish, I had a wander round the lakes yesterday afternoon, can’t tell you if the four carp are ok because all lakes are still about 99% covered with ice.~sick

TF_toplightsAny sign of the “Leasees”.Those lakes are gonna be in trouble with the ice not being broken, the only lakes deep enough to sustain enough oxygen over a long period of time are Horeshoe,Christmastree and maybe the Big lake.
Hope i’m wrong. -
20/01/2010 at 7:07 pm #89960
TF_teabagNo sign of anyone during my 1 and a half hours walk around the whole place, just like a ghost town. lol
If I could have found the keys for the little digger I would have gone round in that instead of walking and punched some holes in every lake,

TF_DishyfishMalcolm that does not surprise me one bit, but when the warm weather comes and the big matches start they will be there every day. And the likes of Mark (Teabag) will be expected to be there to. Thats if we have any fish to catch by then..
I might go back to fishing the rivers full time again!!!

Plenty of rivers down here at Willy when it rains, best of both worlds at the one place for you Del. lol

TF_MICK THE BOOKIELads…..Please try and be more optimistic.Every time i read about Willy it seems all doom and gloom.Lets hope our “home” survives this torrid time, and returns to something like its best….Okay it may take time, and hard work, but i for one will miss her badly if it all goes “tits-up”.

TF_teabagMalcolm and Mick,
I’ve been down Willy today – all lakes thawed out now and not a sign of any fatalities, thought I will give you some good news now I have chilled out a bit. lol
Fished New lake with a pole and landed a nice bunch of roach/bits, 2 carp and also lost 2 carp.
The new Canal lake is almost finished and with the rain it is filling up with water already.

hooking 4 carp is very good for that venue, why dont they use the big bucket jcb for filling it in and plant vegtables??
-
24/01/2010 at 5:39 pm #90794
TF_teabagYorkshire, hooking 4 carp was good for me with a pole ~sick
Don’t forget these are proper lumps of carp and not the little hungry 1-3 lbs muted F1’s most places are chucking in to make matchmen think I must be good to catch all these fish in a few hours. lol
Why plant vegtables ??? the place is a christmas tree farm !!!

You are never satisfied Brian. lol
It’s certainly not the way I would run the place if I had a say in it, I just need to win the lottery first.

Anonymousi think we could all say the same thing ~think ~think
but my first job would be draining top lake a scrapping it back to its original bottom, reinforce the banks, pegs and dig out that back spit and bomb hole and open the whole lake up,once filled with water i’ll let it settle then restock with a good head of mixed fish, bream crucians tench rudd roach, perch gudgeon f1’s and common and mirror carp…and theres no way would you lot get you’re grubby mits on it for at least 18mth 2yr..so there ~naughty

I would disagree and say it was the back spit and bomb hole what made the Top Lake so special (when it had fish), dig them out and it will be just another featureless open hole in the ground lake, and you can’t say you would do it to make all swims fair, because an open even shaped lake still ends up having favourite winning swims.

TF_proper tidal boyYour quite right Mark remembering back over the good days ive had there and many other people too,to many to name indivually its seems part of my fishing days have dissapeared to be left with a small% of willy left to enjoy only too hear another lake too be dug just doesnt make sense ???? my only hope of its former glory to return is that the owner sells to someone who is interested in the fishing again as imoa the present owner has lost the plot bigtime
