Can anyone give me any info on Johns Lake at Willinghurst?
Never fished the lake, in fact last time I saw it was not long after it was built.
What’s the stocking, what sort of weights and what methods are doing the business?

Nick…..The lake is fishing very well at the moment, and i will try and give you some help although i am not the best silver angler about by a long way.
Steve Gardner(God and Eng.World Champ)won the match there last week with over a 100lbs.He caught mainly Skimmers(up to 3lb)Roach,and little Carp, with a couple of bonus Tench(4lb),and larger Carp in his haul. The weights were varied, and i think there were 30-70lb nets.Steve and the other good anglers caught on 4-6m pellet, but i do know Steve and Delbert(Dishyfish)on this site caught mainly on Paste late to draw away from the rest of the field.Tis a strange lake, cause i know if someone had the fish in front of them and fed right, they could catch a good few better fish on the feeder.Dont make the mistake others have done however of casting to the bar,if you are considering this attack.I really believe also that you could catch the larger Carp in the lake and give yourself a chance on this method.Whatever method you use,one thing is for sure, you will get bites and have an enjoyable day….Good luck…MTB.

At the moment I would fish two paste lines 10-11 metres. One over GB the other over mirco pellet, one line at 10oclock the other 2oclock. Looking at a depth of 3 & half 4ft. I would feed a shorter line at 6-7m to,if you can catch them there your on a winner. Plenty skimmers showing & the odd bream tench to 4ib and lots of nutty small carp. Be aware it can get very windy on this lake mostly left to right!! Can play a havoc with presentation. Also other baits do well like corn soft pellet. Mr Kent who sometimes browes this site, does well on soft pellets. Fish what your comfortable on if its paste pellet or corn you will have a few bites.. Tight lines….

Thanks for the replys. Hopefully I can put something together in terms of an approach now. What sort of elastic’s and lines as a rough guide, I assume that it won’t be .20 and red hydro there. Is it mostly Skimmers that make up whats being caught, what size are the little carp? are they making up the weights?

I use the blue preston and white hydro. Paste rigs 0.16 to a 14 and the pellet set up 0.16-0.14 to a 16 hk. god the other week had 53ib of skimmers and 40ib of carp. The carp run from 10ozs to a pound and half or so, with the occasional bigger fish to 8-10ib. The carp run you all over the place so thats why the slightly beefer gear is needed. There is alot of roach and the tench are great to catch which have come out 4ib plus.. Im off to South Africa tomorrow but look forward to reading the reports of this lake when I get back. P.s those nets will stink rotten on the way home. Hope you have a few mate..

Brian, I would love to hear from you what the stories are going around about the management and a prob, I’ll even put you straight after if there wrong, but I’m dying to hear them first.
