Poor gits having struggled through qualification on rock hard canals and commercials their reward is a day on the Tidal.
From the Match Fishing site :-

“The Tidal Trent has built up a strong reputation as both a specimen water, and a great match fishing venue. Matrix Dynamite Trentmenโ€™s Alan Henry is the man who runs most of the matches on the section, and explained: โ€œThe Tidal Trent fished really well last year, with some big bags of bream and barbel โ€“ and plenty of roach in the harder sections.”

I think Alibongo must be on drugs LOL

        Best of luck lads

i think he means it will be a grueller for a lot of anglers bob ๐Ÿ™‚

Yes exactly redarmy, not really a fitting venue for a competition of such standing, if they wanted a river venue then the Yare would have been better, but I think other considerations other than the quality of the the fishing was a possible reason for the choice.

Would be good to hear from some of the competitors to see how they feel !!

rusty i fished the div 2 a few years back on the tidal and other than dunham it was a struggle for most 1 of our anglers at besthorpe had 1 8oz roach and finished 7th out of the whole section of 40+ anglers

It will get worse after all the teams have been practicing.

It is a run off all day so could be tough but there will be bites to be had from most area’s. I would have preffered to have seen the match be on a split tide.

๐Ÿ˜ฎ ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ๐Ÿ˜ฎ you mean its not been thought about in fact that will be the same tide as the last national and i was at south clifton ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ๐Ÿ˜ฎ 4lb something of dabs and good points with that and it was very shallow

its an 8M tide (Average Size) topping at around 8am at Laughterton.

The Tidal has fished completely different for the last 3 seasons so you dont know what you are likely to find come the day.

Last season if you worked for bite you would get them from any pegs but we shall have to wait and see.

rusty at the end of the day thats where the final is and no one can do anything about it ๐Ÿ˜‰ it the competition everyone wants to win in team fishing so be it .there isn’t a lot of time to practice and it takes 28 days for the tide to be the same as the match so everyone will have to be ready for anything
its one way where anything can happen if your not prepared ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Yes you are right a grueller is on the cards, and the access is terrible. I too wonder how they came to this decision !! Skulduggery I suspect lol

I’d love to be fishing the final on the Trent, but unfortunately there’s no w/league in our area, so no chance of even making a semi-final these days.

As for the Yare, well there’s about 90 pegs on the match length. If it fishes anything like normal (last year was iffy due to the amount of rainwater keeping the river clear) it’ll all but sold out most saturdays. Sundays will be fully booked with league and club matches.

Without either upsetting the regulars who support the venue every week, or upsetting the teams in the final who might not be able to get to fish it under match conditions, I dont know how it could accomodate the final.

At least they have got the common denominator down to the lowest level. It will be cr*p for everybody so the best team with the best ”thinking” anglers should win.

there are a lot of wires crossed here i hope  access ive been told is parking behind every peg thats a great plus point ive also been told the tide is the best they can get for the match on a saturday
if its a grueller so be it one thing is for sure there will be a winner ๐Ÿ˜‰ and perhaps a real upset as lesser teams could have a better chance of winning
its like football you pay your money and take a chance it might be 0.0 or 6.3 which match would you remember for the right reasons and which for the wrong ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜‰

                                      Joff,

I wouldnt listen to any of this cr*p on here mate. 95% parking is behind your peg. The furthest you will have to walk is 5 pegs at north clifton.

I dont know why people who never fish this venue are churping up. Last year was tough due to the river being constantly in flood but most matches on my water was won with between 20-30lb.

The year before in a number of matches you wouldnt win your section with weights like that.

Im a little surprised by rusty given he should be promoting the trent not filling peoples heads with rubbish.

The tide isnt the best but the pegging will be picked to give anglers the best opportunity on a tide like that.

I fish the tidal every saturday and sunday from June 16th through to whenever it swiches off usually around mid october.

No one knows how the tidal will fish this year so lets just get the season started and then comment on what the fishing is like!

cheers pal i was begining to think ๐Ÿ™ ๐Ÿ™ ๐Ÿ™ its going to be a simular tide to the last national by the looks of it and like you said perhaps not the best but most caught that day ๐Ÿ˜‰ not monster weights but i can’t see the venue getting as much pressure as a national ๐Ÿ˜‰

We hammered the river last year and didnt notice a lot of difference. TBH no body hammers this river as much as the carp and barbel anglers. It is a very large river with an ever changing tide so dont see it doing to much damage.

Like I said before last year was a tough year but if you approached the river with an open mind there were bites to be had. But were another season on and it will be different yet again, with all the floods of the last 10 months the hotspots will have changed and fish will have moved. It will even take the regulars a while to get a feel for it again.

Why shouldnt this final be fished on tidal trent????

I’ve fished tidal most weekends for last 10 yrs mainly for barbel..howevever as an ex match angler I did represent Clay Lane in Division One 3 years back when 5 sections were on the tidal.

One thing: – rest assured there are more silver fish thriving in river now then 10 years ago although less barbel (possibly more foods available for the silvers??)
Secondly the class of angler on display on the day will prove whats to be had..
The only thing that could scupper this event is the climate as the weather paterns over recent years have been so unpredictable!!!!

Just one thing though..why Besthorpe and not Scunny AAs Dunham ?

Anyway I will be there as a spectator. In meantime all the best to all taking part ๐Ÿ˜‰

                                              You having the festival again?

The Besthorpe/Dunham thing is a bit complicated. I will explain when i see you next.
