I was lucky enought to be invited over to Yellowstone to carry out workshops with the FFF Conclave.
The workshop was based on wire woven patterns.
What amazed us was that they had not heard of these patterns and we had the opportunity not only to teach the technique but also to take the guys out on the Madison,Firehole and Gibbon Rivers to demonstrate the effectiveness of these patterns.
Mid morning saw a massive hatch of caddis and i mean massive the river surface was white.
tThe locals were casting dries over the rising fish but had difficulty connecting, what they had not realsied was we had been out a couple of days earlier and tried the woven wire flies with amazing results.
In the space of one hour i had over thirty fish and a crowd of over twenty guys asking what i was using.
The patterns that worked well was the black and silver nymph and the may fly nymph.
Ufortunately i have got no feed back from the guys in England about the woven Grayling nymphs but i am convinced that they will make a good accout for themselves.
Here is the pattern the weave is a simple one demonstrated by Oliver Edwards in his dvd.I in no way consider this my design all i have done is used the utc wore to ensure a lim profile and a weighted fly to get down to the fish.Over here in Ireland wire woven dabblers have been tried out on the Loughs such as Erne and Sheelin and have proved very effective.
