hi all, what floats do/would you use for fishing chopped worm and caster long {14.5 mtrs+} on a shallow estate lake. Fished a silver match yesterday and had real trouble seeing my float{preston classic, due to the tow dragging it through white water then coloured. Probably need float with better visability. Also do you backshot floats on the bank or when you tie them at home, as you cant pre determine conditions. Many thanks.

What colur tip were you using and what direction was the light coming from, and was there ripple?

            Black bristle against a bright/ripple.
Try using a long coloured plastic tip on a body down float pattern and use a marker pen to make it banded so that you can see the dips of the tip or rises. If you were to completely black it out you might not see half the bites. Not all chop worm bites go straight down!

Only backshot when the conditions need it and then use the appropriate shot to match the conditions.

A body down patterm with a long tip helps with combating the surface skim you get with a shallow lake as it will tend to ride underneath it, and a bulk set within a foot of the hook helps to keep the bait steady in the undertow. The skim will be going in the direction of the wind but the undertow will invariably be off in the opposite direction.

Cutnut, the tip was yellow mate and the light was coming straight towards me and there was a considerable ripple. I think a polaroids may have helped. cheers.

Then Defo black out your Tip next time, Use a permanent ink marker or a piece of black silicon tube.

I did black out the tip but kept loosing sight in the darker water. I think a band around the bristle like you suggested earlier might have helped. Thanks for your help mate.
