TF_drawbag1967I’ll get the ball rolling.
Daiwa Tournament Landing Net handles – utter garbage,
the end cracked whilst trying to land an 8lb Carp. Daiwa have produced some cracking gear over the years but this item is deffo not one of them. Why should we pay a fortune for s**t.

SammydimpleCan’t agree with the ” all Maver is rubbish ” post as I still own a Maver Medusa which occasionally comes out of it’s holdall. I used to use it all the time, awesome pole for the money, just a bit heavy at 16m.

TF_TIDALWAVE1Preston competition rod sleeve, too short for any practical use.
Korum 3 rod hardcase, struggled to fit 2 readymade rods inside.
very poorly designed, and enough to put me off buying from Preston innovations/korum again in the future.both returned and exchanged for Daiwa Infinity range.tried and tested luggage that does its job properly.

TF_macca63Garbolino Netsy 3 piece take apart landing net handle lasted two minutes – screwed the net to the handle and the brass thread fell out whilst netting a fish splitting the carbon.
Discarded to top piece and fished with the shorter ‘stronger’ two pieces only for the brass thread to fall out netting my second fish of the day. Bought a cheaper Drennan and had no problems with it

TF_craigmPreston XL pro flat roller, both little fold up rollers have fallen off due to the plastic ends breaking.
-
01/01/2010 at 11:08 am #86902
TF_Bingo WingsParticipantHad exactly the same problem with mine Craig, will be getting rid and going back to the Daiwa/Boss rocking rollers.
Also bought a mega side tray which was cracked and looked like it had been assembled by Stevie Wonder blindfolded and handcuffed, the brass inserts that hold the large screw threads had like scrap bits of plastic/nylon covering them so you had to scrape them out to get the screws in, never bothered just took it back for a full refund. Lesson learnt. -

england awayParticipantAgree – Daiwa tournament landing net handle, went through two in two outings. Pains me to say it but swapped it for a Preston and no problems with it. Guess it just goes to show that even the tackle companies we hold in high esteem are still capable of selling rubbish.

Alex_RayParticipant-Daiwa net handle threads useless and not held in place properly, now got the drennan extra strong. 10x better!
-daiwa tourny luggage, lasted a season but still crap, carryall busted, holdall busted, now got the garbolino super G stuff, very impressed and would recommend to anyone! -

TF_punchcrumbI have to say i have bought some preston crap but to be honest its a case of let the buyer beware and it appears that very few of the name tackle companys are exempt from pushing crap.
There are a few exeptions but be carefull where you spend your hard earned, Drennan seem pretty good and tricast also never seem to be mentioned for the wrong reasons.
If its made in china then whoever puts there name on it its likely to be S*** of variable quality but be aware expensive doesnt mean good or even fit for purpose as far as fishing gear goes.
Its time Joe public wised up.
OH and be aware that the Angling press do us no favours how many un favourable reviews have YOU read. -
02/01/2010 at 3:20 pm #86946
TF_GavinI saw some duff gear when I used to do the tackle review for Midland / Southern angler but it never got a write up. One rep did get a little upset about something written about some line, but the fact was that while the product was okay (useable, not exceptional) ALL the spools that were sent were badly bedded in and the line was a mare to put on a reel!

AnonymousPreston Flat Roller – very poor build quality. Apart from a few items such as stotz, Powerline & PR Hooks i am finding Preston (particularly larger items) very disappointing in recent years.
Anyone got any suggestions on Pole rollers?
-
02/01/2010 at 5:05 pm #86951
TF_geepsterParticipantTell you what I think about pole rollers. If you need to lift the pole up to get over a bush or bank, the base has to be heavy. All current pole rollers have a very light base because they value lightness above build quality and stablity. This is pretty idiotic because we never have to walk far. They probably don’t do it any more but the pole roller I use if you like a tripod variety is a Colmic made of metal I’ve had for 15 years. Heavy as koof, but never blows over in a wind. However, with a flat bank behind you, IMO your rod holdall is the best pole roller you can have.

TF_rocketFeederHave to say the Preston Competition holdall that fell to bits (zip broke, stitching cam apart) after 3 months was very poor.

TF_tewtonand another one for the daiwa tournament handle, their customer service over it shite also! a friend bought one last week as they now down to £30 and broke his on first outing – now replaced with a preston LOL. some jokers designed that handle and some cheapskates manufactured it – hardly any glue on the head at all
-

stephenkI noticed they were heavily discounted now.
If they are not fit for purpose they shouln’t be selling them at all.
