Wot no males

Why do I only catch female Dragonettes , I have never caught a brightly coloured male only the brown females.
Do the males only colour up during the breeding season?
(the same as ducks)

Don’t be so picky, think yer self lucky.
If you have a female mate!! get her to bait the hook, or get the misses to rub some female juice on the worms before you leave!!
Or, so some say, WD40 is the same!!

There are 3 different species of dragonette around the coast and the only way I can tell the difference is by the colour of the males so I need to start catching some
