Rob Perkins won the first of this season’s Saturday qualifying matches with a 9-0-0 net from peg 36. He caught an impressive mixed bag, made up of six small eels, on flat float tactics, and 200 small chublets on waggler.
Michael Buchwalder took the best weight from the Town. He worked his lines to put together a tidy mixed net of perch and eels on worms and maggots, and added to his tally with several roach on hemp later in the day.
Barry Oliver came third in the match, after tempting several big perch and a small chub from peg 52. The Maver Image rod started on waggler, and caught a big perch and a couple of small chub, before coming short on his pole lines, which he fed with chopped lobworms. He managed another big perch, and a good eel from here to finish with 7-8-8.
