TOP East Yorkshire fishery Risby Park is to build a fifth lake in readiness for next summer.

Planning permission is already through for the 3.5 acre venue, which will be built above the venue’s top pool, Orchard.

The 40-peg lake will be dug by March, weather permitting, and stocked mainly with carp.

“We did look at creating a silver fish pond but our research tells us that there just isn’t the year-round demand,” said Risby’s Neil Robinson. “In the end of the day you have to cater for what the anglers want.”

Risby, which is situated at Walkington, is tucked into a valley and has avoided the recent freeze, and is still producing very good weights. Last weekend’s open on the Carp Pond was won with 102-9-0 with good backing weights. Corn and maggot are producing the best weights.

The venue has just received a new stock of small ghost, mirror and common carp with around 1000lb of fish being spread between Orchard, Carp, Tench and Folly ponds.

Neil also revealed that planning permission has gone in for a new 120-peg match venue at Leven.

“As long as it comes through okay it will be the biggest match water in the region,” he said. “The plan is to stock it with mainly carp, ide, tench and some chub.”
