Probably the most jaw dropping big fish capture of the year has been taken from White Acres Holiday Park in Cornwall in the shape of this monster eel weighing 10lb 3oz.

The fish, one of the biggest ever landed in the UK and only 15oz short of the British record landed over 35 years ago, took a lobworm bait fished by local angler Luke Jones.

The 23-year-old used on a running leger rig with a size 4 ESP hook on Pat’s Pool at the Newquay complex. He readily admits he was targeting the venue’s big catfish, which have been regularly making the news headlines in recent weeks.

Fishery manager Clint Elliott told Total-Fishing: “We have seen big eels here over the years and the biggest to date was about 9lb. But until you sit back and think about the percentage against the British record yon don’t realise what a significant fish it really is. It’s funny that since the capture our worm sales have increased!! Who knows what is lurking in these lakes?”
