One of Clint Elliot’s professional team of staff, Ben, clearly has a sense of humour as he advises anglers to go for silver-skinned pickled onions over on Sycamore (22 pegs) during the month of December as apparently the carp love ’em! Try groundbait feeder to the islands with 2 or 3 maggots on the hook in the real world, or if it’s silver fishing you want to target, then a pole and caster combination will be hard to beat. Trelawney (32) needs to be attacked with a very small feeder, either maggot or GB, using maggot or corn on the hook. The same baits will apply on the pole line but Ben assures me that a sweet type of groundbait will be superior to any fishmeal variety. On the specimen front, then Pat’s Pool (25 pegs) has to be looked at if winter fishing for big carp appeals, as fish to 27lb are on the cards. Hair-rigged boilies with paste wrapped round them will be a key offering and anglers will have to decide for themselves whether to ‘plop around’ with individual baits to locate the carp or to cast a PVA bag out with a small bed of feed and sit and wait for some action. The fully kitted out tackle shop (tel: 01726 862519) is open every morning from 8.00am to 10.00am during the winter months when anglers can purchase both tickets and bait … and ask for top advice on where and how to catch on the day.
