Collins nets winning place at Monk Lakes Fish ‘O’ Mania qualifier

Fine sunny conditions greeted the 130 anglers at this latest Fish ‘O’ Mania qualifier held at Monk Lakes, Kent on Saturday 2nd April 2016.

Grays Essex angler Jason Collins fishing under the Preston Innovations/Sonu Baits banner drew peg 112 on Lake 3 where he fished pellets on the pole, long and short to net carp all day long. His biggest fish was 14lbs and he finished with a huge total of 259lbs 8ozs, to win by a fairly healthy margin.

Runner-up Matthew Wiles drew peg 113 virtually back to back with the winner. Matthew from Norfolk who fishes for Matrix Wensum Valley fished pellets and corn on the pole to land carp to 12lb for total of 220lbs 8oz.

Third place fell to Esher angler Mark Smith who drew peg 56 on Lake 2 where he fished meat on the pole to take carp to 12lb in his 151lbs 8oz net.  There was a very impressive fourth place for 19 year old Jessica Knights from Diss who landed 142lb 6oz from peg 125 on Lake 3.

There were nine weights topping the magic ton and only one section winning weight under 50lbs.

Thanks are due to the fishery staff for a well run match.

The next round is on Wednesday 6th April at Woodlands View, Droitwich.
