Col WParticipantI’m on hols in Holywell Bay near Newquay (a Parkdean resort) at the end of August with the family and given my fatherly duties, have only managed to blag two days of fishing for the week.
I understand that Gwinear run opens, but i’m looking for another match (to be pools fodder for) that week.
So, does anyone know if my Parkdean status will allow fishing on the Wednesday or Thursday match at Whiteacres, or alternatively, is Bolingey a private lake that also does opens?

TF_stu.sI’m afraid bolingey doesn’t do opens Colw.
I think whiteacres matches are only open to on site residents but i’m not 100%
There is one plus point though which is mawgan porth, i don’t know if it is your cup of tea but they do run opens on tues, wed and friday.
If your interested,it may be a bold statement but i can put you onto a method that will not leave you as pools fodder. -

Col WParticipantThanks for your response Stu, is this the same porth that Whiteacres have in the festivals?

Morgan porth is not the porth used in white acres festivals.
It is solid with small carp usually caught close.
As to wether you could fish the residents matches I would enquire you might have to pay for a weekly licence but as you are already in a parkdean site can’t see why they wouldn’t let you fish if you did. -

Col WParticipantWell that’s a relief straight away, with it not being the same porth in the festival.
I don’t mind admittimg that if i never saw that other place again, i wouldon’t be mentally scarred.
I suppose it gives the festivals a bit of a different angle, but it’s not my cup of rosy lea.
anyway, do they have an open at this M porth gaff then?

TF_stu.sEric,
I am not the venue expert but i have fished mawgan porth six times this year. And my method has not let me down yet.I have not fished it for a couple of months (since Skip has been here)but feel quietly confident that i could compete with anyone on there fishing like this.
Firstly on all of the pegs here you MUST only fish with your top two as speed is the essence, and although you will only be catching carp averaging 10oz it is imperative you use nothing less than a 14 elastic, as anything softer results in you taking too long to net fish.
Next point is to choose which margin to fish (left or right)which will hopefully be the one towards the empty peg,if not the one with the most vegetation will do.
So far this is the same as the locals will do but here my approach differs, they will fish and feed pellet (soaked pellet feed and expander on the hook)but unless you are a very accomplished expander pellet angler (which i am not) you will not compete with them.
To replace the pellet approach i have been employing a purely MAGGOT attack, taking 4 pints of red with me,starting on the deck on a top two and following the fish up through the day to (hopefully)12inches deep, but fishing tight in to the marginal cover which is generally 18 inches to two feet deep.
I do not claim to be a superstar but i really do believe that fishing maggot here gives the angler new to the venue his best chance.
Employing this approach I recorded six 100lb plus weights with a best of 190lbs,won two matches, had one second and won one section.
If it fishes well i.e.over 200lb wins then it will be highly unlikely that you will win on maggot but you will be in with a bloody good chance of framing, however if it doesnt fish brilliantly (like if more than 20 anglers fish) you will have a chance.
I hope this info will be of use to you but whatever happens i do not think you will fail to be impressed by this wonderful fishery,it has only been maver pairs and fishomania that has kept me away.
Good luck on your visit and if skip is fishing treat second as a result.p.s. please let me know how you get on.

TF_slipperyYou also forgot to mention, that you have to use your landing net for EVERY fish.Very good info though stu.s.

alfieParticipantif you constantly feed 1 pellet at MP and use normal ringers expanders on the hook then you should be able to get a fish a chuck at 12-18 inches deep and not get liners, make sure you have your float dotted right down.
I fished it in june but didn’t get it sorted till the last 2 hours and had 96 fish in those two hours, use tightened black hydro or 14 latex set a bit tight -

RubbaDubCol,
I emailed Kirsty at WA with the same question and the reply was:
“Unfortunately the fishing and matches are exclusive for White Acres residents only so you would not be able to enter them. You can pleasure fish on a Friday & Saturday only.” -

Wallace, she emailed me with the same repsonse. That’s okay though, Gwinear and Mowgan Porth are fine. Thanks mate.
