      TOURNAMENT-TOM

after posting a question about flagship poles, i have ordered a tourney pro, just wanted to know before i buy more top kits wether the power top 2s are any good or do you use the match top with the no1 taken out, what elastic can you go up to and would you use the standard no4 for carpin or only the short 4? cheers

When i 1st got mine i used the power kits and tried the match kit with the No.1 removed a few month later. The difference is so noticable, the action is ruined with the power kits at longer lengths. I’d still happily use the power kits for margin fishing , the pole doesn’t deserve the power kits at longer lengths, it makes your fishing less enjoyable.

two-nets-tom, TimD is spot on although i’ll use the power kits upto 14.5 if really big fish are involved, I cut all my power tops the same length so there quite short. On the match kits take the 1’s out and you can use black hydro no problem, although I wouldnt use any more than that.

To keep everything the same length top kit wise (or as near as dam it) Power Kits cut back and fit a Maver No6 Internal Bush, Match kits for carping remove the No1 and fit a Maver Internal No5 Bush. For River Canal work cut the number 1 back so a drennan internal bush fits (I use the yellow one’s I think there No4’s)and then use a short number 3 section, this will then keep everything the same as your potting kit, unless you use the Garbolino extendable potting kit which also fits by the way

my power top have been cut down to be the same length as my match tops with no.1 removed (i guess we all do this anyway) and i find them fine at 14m+ cos they are cut down so much. Tom get your power tops posted to mick wilko the quality is awesome, he cuts the bushes from pure ptfe, job done!!

I can only concur with the advice given, the powerkits do slightly unbalance the pole at loger lengths, I use purple hydro in mine.

The matchkits with black hydro in are fine, I know someone who uses matchkits with purple in, but I haven’t been brave enough to try it yet!!!

For what it’s worth Tom I use the Match kits for everything. For all commercial work it’s match kits with the No1 taken out. Personally I use external bushes but only really because I have found them easier to get when I’ve needed to bush the kits up. For silvers work with lighter elastic the No1 is and cut back so there’s maybe 12 inches of it left, but that’s mainly because I’ve measured the pole out to be just a tad under 13m for the world champs. You could leave more in and retain more length for your silvers fishing if you wished. I’ve used the match kits with a purple hydro with no problem at all. They are super strong and I have never even thought I might break a kit on a fish to be honest.

T-N-T I have never been happy using the power kits on my pro the balance doesn’t seem right.
I have settled in using the big bore power tops like the one’s you get with the speccy power with my No3’s. This I feel offers a better balance and personally I have never suffered any breakages, Yes its going to cost you more money but feel its worth it especially if you use the match kits for silvers as well.

As above throw the power kits away, I have had my pro for 3 years and only use the match kits and never had a problem.

cheers for the info guys, but what about the no4 s? can you get away with the standard 4s on commercials or would tou advise only using the short 4s ?

It depends what lengths you intend to fish ? If your always at 13mts or shorter then personally I wouldn’t bother with the short 4’s. Its a personal thing and I suppose, you’ll get various answers, some prefer to use short 4’s depending on the depth of the venue as well.

Personally I only really use the standard 4’s, I only ever use a short 4 on the canel when I dont want loads of pole sticking out behind me when there’s problems with space on the towpath. Short 4’s are good when your fishing really long with a power kit, its just counter balances the every weight of the power top.

tnt, i only use short 4s for commercials,1/balances power kits.2/standard daiwa 4s are the weakest section by far, seen so many long 4s go when cupping in,striking etc.

                              TF_Nigel.

I have 2 of each of the hyro elastic in my pole. Blue, White, Grey, Black and purple, and i put the red in the power tops for margin fishing.
I have never used my short 4s, but i have broke a couple of longs ones, both cupping and stiking!

the power kits are good for upto 13 metres with red hydro in them and a short 4,longer that I just use black hydro in the match kits with number 1 removed
