TF_RenarcOur club fished there 28/07/07..it was a real stuggle, lots of fish moving about, but not enougth biting !! I won on peg 40,fished up against the reeds with luncheon meat, fed micro pellet & hemp,14.5 lbs, 2 x carp 6 barbel, one up to 3.5 lbs..the other lads struggled, odd barbel some said they were also loosing carp…they are in there I saw them, cruising along just under the surface, several ghosties, the near side margins deepened very quickly,3.5 ft to 4 ft against the reeds,7 ft down the track,I also tried paste at 4 mts & 10mts but never got a bite !! hope you have better luck than we did..!!

Louis DI was there on the 29/7 with Bollington Royal Oak, pegs 35-54. It was poor and around 21 lb won it (~peg 45) with a few (and I mean a few) other weights around 15 lb. Even the Bay Malton guy in the hut said it would be hard. I had around 6 lb – 2 barbel, 1 baby carp and 2 ide. In the end, your best bet here is to fish the margins both sides of you and just wait for bites, there are some proper lumps but most are probably 3-5 lb and there are lots of barbel.
TBH, I think this pool is overfished, there are matches Saturday and Sunday with most pegs filled and a couple during the week. Yes, winning weights are often high but they tail off quite quickly. IMO there are better pools at Border, I like the match lake because it gives you all the options (pole, tip or wagg). -

TF_Johnny MacI’ve got a clubby there this Sunday. Looks like it’s going to be hard work!
Is it fishery pellets only??? -
07/08/2007 at 9:23 am #62266
TF_sharkYes its fishery pellets
I won our match Sunday with 36lb corn tight across but you need to fish heavy as they go for the stick ups 0.16 16 Carp feeder and red Hydro -

TF_NeilYou only need to use the fisheries own feed pellets. You can use whatever hook pellets you want.

dave_rushtonParticipanti fished it a couple of weeks ago in a evening match and won with 60 odd pound i fished paste about 3/4 the way across never feed a single pellet as the carp tend to gill feed on the pellet and can cause foul hooked fish i just feed what came off the hook all so had a couple of fish from the margins with corn,
a couple of my mates fished it last night in an evening match and it fished qutie hard with the number in the 40’s doing the bess on the night don’t no what the winner fished on but the peg from 1 to about 25 where dier.

alfieParticipantit normally fishes best in the late 20’s and 30’s……….imo tight over is the way to go right now and feed with a toss pot 4mm expanders, carefull how much you feed

TF_NeilFor the majority of the pegs you are on it will be tight over and an inside line each side.
For the pegs in the late forties I’d try a line in the track as there are plenty of barbel in that area.
I’d feed pellet (don’t overdo it) and fish either paste, pellet or meat.
An alternative feed on one of the inside lines would be hemp which is what I’d also feed if I were going for the barbel in the track

TF_Hulmefish as tight possible to the stick ups or even better if you have a gaps so as to go tight to the bank in shallowest water, feed micro pellets via toss pot few but often. Start on pellet but when silvers move over would switch to paste

AnonymousOn peg 59 or 60 (cant remember) there’s a hole about 1.5ft from the bank to the right of the platform, about 2 feet deeper than the rest of the place, thats the place to fish on them numbers, solid with barbel and occasional carp, fish strong though cos its snaggy 0.18/0.20 to a strong tight elastic, strike and lift very hard otherwise you wont get them out!

Jeff MoorsAs Steve sayes there is a hole on peg 62,to the left but i would not get involved
with it unless you have to.I would start in the middle and try to catch away from
the snags .I have only fished the meridian a couple of times since i left border and
all i know is that paste accross and down the edge is the method but if you are pegged where the wind meets you will catch shallow on pellet two thirds the way accross.Hope that helps. -

dave_rushtonParticipantis their also a hole on peg 28 or 27 as well.
