          Not a question that can be easily answered to be honest mate.

          Basically your normal non-tech lines will have a higher diameter than the high tech lines on the market. i.e 5lb maxima has a diameter of 0.20mm as opposed to preston powerline 0.21mm having a breaking strain on 8lb 15oz….

          I am guessing with you asking this you are looking at line for pole rigs or hooklengths? If so then try to find a line that you are happy with and stick with it. I and most people probably don’t even look at the breaking strain now and work by diameter as to what size fish you are expecting to catch.

            preston power line

            0.05=10oz
            0.06=12oz
            0.07=1.1lb
            0.08=1.12lb
            0.09=2.2lb
            0.10=2.10lb
            0.11=3.6lb
            0.13=4.12lb
            0.15=5.14lb
            0.17=6.12lb
            0.19=7.6lb
            0.21=8.15lb

                      Roachie you could go as light as 0.11-0.13 with black hydro.
