Anonymousit fished quite hard today, 140lb was top weight on corn from the long margin on the end peg 30, i had 85lb from peg 24 made up of 9 carp for 51lb and the rest skimmers and cruies up in the water on worm had six of the carp at 6 m in the last 2 hours feeding corn hemp, corn on hook, there were 2 90lb+ weight and around 6 80lb+ good close match really, this lake threw up 199lb and 153lb in the aca masters last week but is a bit up and down with the unsettled weather .

r.oyboythanks alot, was much caught far across on feeder and if so what baits, cheers

Anonymousnot a lot caught on the feeder but most of us have politis ! it does usually catch you some fish but you have to be blinkered to anglers catching on the pole, i would say maggot with caster hemp in the feeder has been the best option if you going to do it.

TF_kev34Kev im in talks with roy on booking a match next year for 20-25 pegs…thought about lakes 6/7 as thats probably about the right size.
Do you suggest any others….not sure uglies would fish well with that many on it???..cheers
-
30/08/2007 at 5:29 am #63532
Anonymouspools 6&7 only have 12 pegs each so you would only have 24 max, pool 1 has 30 pegs and is your best option, 20 pegs on there gives everyone a spare peg at one side, or the foundation if RM was prepared to book that.

TF_craigoMy plan of attack would be to feed the margin heavy with groundbait intially and then drip feed it with hemp and maggot heavy all day untill the fish arrive.
In the meantime, I would fish groundbait feeder with corn to far bank and also feed a 6m line heavy with corn and fish over it with catmeat.
You usually catch straight away with feeder but for some reason the carp from the far bank seem smaller. Throughout the day the fish work across the lake. I would then go onto 6m line and keep trying my margin swim until I got signs. The fish on the inside margin run quite big and there’s some nice barbel which run to 5lb too so I would set up .20 rigs in the margin.
Sometimes you can catch long up in water but it seems to be a bit hit and miss whenever I’ve been so I just set up a couple of shallow rigs as a back up and keep my eyes open on other anglers.
top venue! – good luck

Anonymousi fished two matches on pool 1 last week, monday and weds, we had 15 pegs each day so were spaced equally along, monday, peg 24, was again quite hard going but i caught well towards the end and finished in third in the section with 85lb this was made up of 20lb of silvers and 12 carp, a few caught up in the water but most caught feeding heavy with corn at 4m but this line didnt come alive untill late in the match. it was won with 145lb from the long margin of the end peg 30 and 2nd was from peg 28, fishing long with cat meat.
wednesday i had the good fortune to draw peg 30, i fished worm and caster along the margin to my right, and caught from the off, lots of big skimmers and a steady run of carp, i finished up with 15 carp to 15lb for 116lb and 37lb of big skimmers for a total of 153lb and a section win, second was again margin on peg 18 taking 95lb there were around 5 8olb+ weights, we fished mallory big lake yesterday but the club match on pool 1 was won by rob wooten with 250lb fishing the maggot with a feeder on peg 24 second was again reliable peg 30 with 109lb, i had a nice days fishing at mallory taking around 200 fish, skimmers and small carp on the pole and wag, for 67lb, top weight was 149lb of carp from the island peg 16. -

Anonymoushave taken a gallon of casters to summer matches for a couple of seasons now usually for the shallow fishing, but with the fishing not being at its best recently i thought i would try something a bit different, the guys that come along from around the country to fish our open matches often fish the worm and do well, so it was a bit of a gamble, but then not really with peg 30 being on top form at moment i dont think it would have mattered what bait was used as the weight on monday was on the corn.sorry if i am confusing you.

Anonymousr.oyboy those tactics look spot on for most of the lakes, i would say caster hemp with maggot on feeder, we usually put the hemp and caster with a bit of g bait, a long hepm line for meat or cat meat if its rock hard the fish will also come up on this line for shallow if they havin it. then i would just do one line closer with the corn or paste at say 4-6m and a couple of margin rigs with different hooks for different baits, if they come into the margin though they aint usually tackle shy. good luck.

Rich.bfcit was very hard Tuesday, the genral feeling is that the usual methord of filling it in with hemp caster and corn is causing them to back off. Even the usualy reliable skimmers didn’t show up as usual. all the top weights came from the high numberd pegs but with only 65lb winning it it shows its hard at the moment. the winner fished 9 meters with pellet and corn for skimmers while feeding the margins which he left alone until the last 2 hours, even then he only managed 5 lumps.
Sundays match was won with a good weight but he fished a dry swimstim feeder to the board with maggot.
hope it picks back up for you

Rich.bfcr.oyboy
just been talkin to kid who won it yest and he told me that its just the corn they are backing off he told me he didn’t feed any at all.
so my advice would be to take some but dont feed any unless someone starts catchin on it. -

AnonymousWith a winning weight of only 65lb. It sounds like it was much more than just the corn the carp where backing off.

AnonymousTrue blue, was difficult again at weekend with 60lb a good weight on all the lakes, although 200lb won pool 1 for the second week running from the same area around 23, RM had one of the only other two 100lb + weights, both from pool 5, all the weight came to the feeder.

Anonymousdarkhorse, the gates are always locked apart from open days to protect the members vehicles etc, a phone call to RM prior to a visit will get you in for a look around. number on the MPF website
