Like Ken Giles(who i have never had the pleasure to meet) there are a few real gents i would like to mention.
First, the late great Ivan Marks, many moons ago when i was a junior, i was watching the Whitbread on the witham, i left my dad and went to see how others were getting on, I stumbled on Mr Marks, and went to see how he was getting on, an hour later, i finally left, he went through everything with me, and for someone of that age, gace me alot to think about.
Next: The whole Ashurst family, in leigh for a Prison service match, had Kevin take time out and show us how to fish the canal, Dave lent me his pole(brave i think as i was only 14, and went from using 8 1/2m to 11m in a few days)Keith for supplying the bloodworm and joker fresh to us on the bank, and Benny also, and to top it off, i got 3 generations of the family to sign Kevin’s pole book.
Finally Mr Dennis White, i turned up at Hallcroft after travelling down from Northern Scotland to practice for a RAF match, asked Dennis how he was doing, he spent the next hour or so running through everything with me, and sharing his flask(very grateful as had been driving for 7 hours). Watched him again a few days later where he gave me more info, and then, when the whole team came down for a practice, he took time out(free of charge), and went round every member of the team, and showed them what to do, as the standard and experience of the team differed.
Thank you all.
