I’ve been criticised in the past for using a feeder in the winter, with pellet or corn on the lead being favoured.Yet on another post here it is saying ball in 12 or so ball of GB.So my question is, when should I attack a peg this time of year with kilos of the stuff, and when should I give it a miss.I mainly fish waters that are similar to Sycamore, Jenny’s etc.

Also if You were to fish a 4 acre lake with reasonable head of 5lb bream this time of year would you approach it with mass GB?
        Thank you.

the reason they don’t feed as well in the winter is because they use less energy=less protien is needed.
Even if your swim is full of fish I don’t think it’s a good idea to be piling bait in they normally won’t move much, just give em enough to keep em happy.
When it gets really cold like water temp 5 degrees or lower then feed them virtually nothing as they won’t move at all, which means you have to find them.
From now till december probably small pva bags will work or a small maggott feeder,I would stay away from GB feeder unless the other methods didn’t work then I would try it.

Its sort of correct in what you are saying, alfie. Part of the problem is also that because the fish tend to group up in small areas of lakes as the water temp drops. Anglers tend to feed less and instead chuck around with a bomb and try to find the fish. Because anglers are looking to catch a few fish rather than blanking. Most anglers dont feed much if anything at all. However, this creates the effect of switching off fish like carp. On comercial carp waters that get regular feed. The carp feed much stronger than on comercial carp waters that hardly get any anglers baits. If you want to bag up and catch a very big catch of fish but dont mind sruggling or even blanking. Then attack the peg in a controlled way. If the fish are in the area and in a feeding mood. Then some very big bags of fish can be caught. At this time of year some of the biggest catches of carp are caught on comercials. I think this is because some anglers are still putting plenty of bait in. The carp are grouped in very small groups and because they have been getting regular food. They have not switched off yet. Go on a water that has not been fished for the last 3 week and even though it is still reasonably warm for this time of the year. The carp may hav switched off and be almost impossible to catch!
