I use one for all my river work and commercials in winter and it’s a superb rod with one of the best actions I’ve used.

Don’t let the price put you off as it is a lot of rod for the money and is good as many rods costing significantly more.

The Mach 3 float rods really are quality bits of kit. I guarantee if you buy one you’ll end up buying more out of the range.

Dave, do they actually do a ‘light’ version of this rod? I thought they did but I can only find the standard and power versions listed on their website, and also in the dealers adverts. The ‘match’ version I had a waggle with seemed a bit heavy actioned to me for very light hooklengths and it had a line rating on it of up to 6lb b/s.

                Floatfisher.

There is a light version as quite a few of the lads use them on the Avon. Try ringing Ted Carters or Fishermans Friend, they may not advertise them on the net however I have been advised by James Robbins that you will be able to get one from them. Get the number off the internet or from the mags.

As for the standard float rod I’m happy to use it with 0.88 hook lengths and I find the action ideal as it is quite forgiving.

                  Dave,

would you say the action of the Mach 3 is more or less forgiving than the Superteam LXL at it’s shorter length?

                  thanks

I looked at the 13ft match and found the action a bit on the heavy side being a bit stiffer than the 14ft Albany I use down the river. I got the impression the rod was made with commercial carp fishing in mind which it would be spot on for.

Ive been trying to get a look at the 13ft light rod but my local shop couldn’t get hold of any a few months back. Im sure they will appearer in the shops eventually.

I’m a bit confused, I thought that the only 13 footer was a standard “light” type match rod, and the 12’6″ was the power type rod – am I wrong?. Thanks for the info by the way…

The problem is if you ask 10 people a opinion on a rod they will all say something slightly different.

I would put the 13ft rod somwhere in between the 12ft 6in rod and a lighter match rod.

Are you even more confused now!! 🙂

                          jonah.

There are three rods in the Mach 3 float range the standard match, the light match and the commercial match.

The 13ft match is the perfect all-round rod which will do almost anything, however IMO it is to light for commercial bagging in summer. It will handle carp however it has been designed as an all round rod suitable for most venues. Although the rod has a 6lb line rating it is at its best using 0.08 – 0.18 hook lengths and as such is suitable for most situations.

The 12ft 6in and 13ft 6in commercial rods are designed specifically for commercials. You can use them on the river for chub and barbel however they are a bit over gunned for roach and dace.

The light model is designed for light line work and for hook lengths from 0.06 dia to 0.14 dia. It’s the type of rod you’d use when you want every fish to count.

                          No carp please.

I have both rods and the action of the standard Mach 3 as far as I can tell is identical to the LXL’s which were designed specifically for river work.

Thanks Dave. Carters didn’t have a light version in when I looked on the racks but I’ll ask next time I’m in.

                              floatfisher.

If they don’t have them in stock they should be able to get hold of them pretty quickly as they have the in stock at Shakespeare so you may have to order one. At the price the rods are selling for I’ll guarantee that you won’t be dissappointed as they are superb rods.
