can anyone tell me any advantages of not using pulla bungs ;been using them for last couple of seasons and find being able to use light elastics and still have control when netting a real bonus ;yet still see loads of top quality anglers not using them , am i missing something ?

After chatting to Mark Wells who uses pulla bungs I am very tempted to join him, watching Mark play fish was a delight at a recent met police match, the advantage was clear to see he would apply pressure by using the elastic, extracting it to exert more pressure, but by always keeping the pole low, this brings the carp closer to the surface and makes for easier netting, I must admit I was very dismissive of the pulla bung when it first came onto the scene, but in expert hands there are real advantages, having watched Mark I only saw him lift his pole slightly on netting his fish.On the same match I hooked into a carp in excess of 20lb and broke the pole trying to exert pressure in order to keep the carp up for netting, maybe the pulla bung would have saved me a few hundred quid.

Im toying with the idea of pull bungs at te moment myself but im asking myself do i have to cut the hydro elastic exact length so i cant store any on a stora bung ?

if yes then in 6 months time when i have to replace my connector or whenever wont my elastic be over tensioned then ?

Sorry guys I’m still the old school and stick to the plain old playing of technique, I never struggle to land fish quickly its just a case of timing it right.

All of my venues though are 98% carp which makes it different to the mix venues where you do need a softer grade of laccy.

do need to use exact length of laccy only problem . but instead of tying knot behind pulla bung maybe you could bunch say 6 inches and secure with very tight cable tie trim neatly and realease and repeat when tying new crows foot etc . not tryed it myself but might work !

you should also be able to get away with using shorter lenght of laky with dacron, tying one end to laky and other pulla. would use with light laky mind
