Report:
In spite of the sub-zero temperature, there was another excellent turnout with 15 anglers spread around the lake in bright sunshine and a light North wind on a bitterly cold day. In spite of the weather (and a slow start for many competitors), everyone managed to catch fish, although the bulk of the fish seemed to have settled at either end of the lake.
Andy (“The Fin”) Findlay continued his remarkable run with yet another win. Disappointed that A15 had been drawn, Andy immediately drew out peg A18, which was the next usable peg along the bank because of the mud. He abandoned his usual method feeder and instead opted for a pole attack, and baiting with soft pellet caught decent carp for a winning weight of 81-12.
Returning after a summer away, Allan Neale drew peg A13 and fished bomb throughout the match to catch several carp for second place with 60-02. His first fish fell to Pepperoni, with the others on bread.
Paul Slatcher was on peg B3 at the other end of the lake and enjoyed his match on the method feeder ending with a creditable 54-09 to take third place, well above fourth-placed Gaz Kitch on peg A21, who fished similarly for his 37-15 to take the final money spot.
Mark Dennahay (B24) caught his fish on the pole, Eddie Keene on the bomb and bread (plus a few silvers on maggot), Aaron Braithwaite on the pole, with Steve Foster, Wayne Harris and Phil Hunt all catching on the bomb (various baits).
It was so cold at the weigh-in that the tops of keepnets were frozen, and thanks to all who assisted (including Eddie recording the weights). The Photos show the top three placed anglers with their catches.
NB. Nisa Opens are held every Wednesday on Lake Two at Makins Fishery (see Facebook “Nisa – midweek open matches” to book a place).
