Great Trout Sport For Early Season Anglers

Ravensthorpe Reservoir continues its brilliant start to the season with an excellent rod average of 5.0 and over 300 fish for the week.

Biggest fish reported went to Graham Smith, who fished an Orange Blob from a boat for a rainbow going 11lb 4oz (pictured below), while bank angler Bob Day used a black Pea Fly for another fine rainbow going 10lb 4oz.

Boat anglers have had the cream of the sport with plenty of hard fighting fish being caught deep down on sinking lines on Orange Blob, Black Pea and Cats Whiskers patterns, but anglers fishing floating and intermediate lines with Buzzers and Diawl Bachs have also had some great sport.

Ravensthorpe regular Pat Flynn has continued his 2008 season form, his best tally being 41 fish on Friday, all taken on a Di3 line with black and green and orange lures.

Pistford is now open too with anglers enjoying a terrific start there too, one fisherman catching 25 fish to double figures on opening day on a Fritz lure at the Stone Bar.

Bank fishing is possibly the best bet at present with the usual early season top spots like the Gorse and Bog Bay and Stone Barn Point and Bay. Boat fishing is best in the areas where the wind is blowing on to the banks. The Causeway, North Farm Bay and Stone Barn Bay are worth a try.

Rutland opens soon and the OnlineFishing.tv cameras are hoping to be there to capture it for its new ‘Game Show’.
