        PACKINGTON TROUT FISHERY

FISHING REPORT – WEEK ENDING 5/7/09

Last week 79 rods caught 97 fish for an average of 1.20 per rod.

The very hot and bright conditions which we had last week, were not conducive to good sport but even in the extreme conditions fish were being caught. They are shoaling along the wires bank of Cocks Close and Gold Heads, Buzzers, sunken Daddy Long Legs, Damsels and big dries dropped amongst the shoals have been the best tactics.

Dave Bratby of Birmingham took a five fish limit from the bank of Cocks Close including the best fish of the week, a 4lb 2oz and Dave’s fish all fell to a black Buzzer fished on a floating line. Mick Strain of Redditch took fish to 3lb 10oz in a five fish catch from a boat on Cocks Close and these all came to a sunken Daddy Long Legs on a floating line.

On the members’ waters, Bill Painter of Hampton-in-Arden caught six fish to 3lb from a boat on the Hall Pool and used a Damsel Nymph to tempt them. On the Great Pool, Kevin Brookes of Tamworth used a Daddy Long Legs to catch five and release a further four fish to 3lb.

The fishery has suspended catch and release on Cocks Close due to the high temperatures. We have changed our prices to reflect this and we will be charging £18 for a five fish ticket and £10 for a two fish ticket with concessions available to senior citizens and juniors. We will continue to stay open for the next few weeks with a close season operating from Monday 27th July until Friday 25th September inclusive, opening on Saturday 26th September. The members’ only waters will remain open throughout the summer.
