Rainbow trout To 14lb 6oz At Packington Somers
PACKINGTON TROUT FISHERY
FISHERY REPORT – WEEK ENDING 29/11/09
Last week 77 rods caught 270 fish for an average of 3.51.
The wet and windy weather made fishing difficult but those who endeavoured were rewarded with some excellent sport.
The best rainbow of the week was 14lb 6oz and was caught by Bedworth angler Malcolm Randle who was fishing from a boat on Cocks Close and Malcolm took it on a Diawl Bach fished on a floating line. Mr J Crowley fished catch and release from a boat on Cocks Close and caught 12 fish including one estimated at 9lb+, all of these came to Cats Whiskers and orange Lures. Brian Mason fished the bank of Cocks Close and took a rainbow of 9lb in a four fish catch which all fell to Cats Whiskers.
On the Members’ waters, Sean Lacey of Nuneaton had five fish from Great Pool including one at 5lb 8oz and these all came to a black Lure fished on an intermediate line. Pete Kelly of Solihull returned a 6lb brown trout whilst fishing from a boat on Park Meadow.
Cocks Close has been in great form over the past week with both boat and bank anglers catching well. The water is absolutely crystal clear and the fish are pulling very hard. Lots of flies are catching with intermediate lines and long leaders the best approach. Cats Whisker, black Tadpole, Viva, Damsel Nymph, Bloodworm pattern, Diawl Bach, black Buzzer and even a few being taken on Cul de Canard dries proving the diversity of flies working at the moment.
The high bank and old boat jetty area remains the hotspot on Cocks Close although there are fish being caught from most areas. On the members’ waters, Great Pool has improved over the past week and the best sport is to be found on the shallow water to the left of the boat jetty.
