        PACKINGTON TROUT FISHERY

FISHERY REPORT – WEEK ENDING 23/5/10

Last week there were 170 rods caught 451 fish for an average of 2.65.

The very hot conditions towards the back end of the week made sport a lot more difficult.

The best fish of the week was a12lb 8oz rainbow caught by regular visitor Trevor Riches of Solihull who was fishing from the bank of Cocks Close. Trevor took the fish on a black Rubber Leg fly with which he also caught another fish and caught and released six more fish. Frank Finlan of Birmingham had an 8lb 4oz rainbow in a five fish catch and these were taken from a boat on Cocks Close and they all came to a GRHE fished on a floating line.

On the Hall Pool, Sam Aspen of Dosthill had a six fish catch including fish to over 5lb and they all came to a black Lure on an intermediate line. Ray Cramp of Coventry took five and released a further six fish with the best going 5lb whilst fishing from a boat on Great Pool and these all fell to Lures.
During the day in the bright sunshine the best tactic has been to fish deep with Damsels, small Nymphs or black Lures but evenings are seeing some excellent rises and the fish are being caught on Emergers and dries.
The best areas have been the wires bank on Cocks Close and the deep water near to the dams on Great Pool, Park Meadow and Hall Pool.

The best fish of the week was a 9lb rainbow caught from the bank of Cocks Close by Trevor Davies of Coventry who took it along with four other fish on a Damsel Nymph fished on a floating line. Richy Barton of Nuneaton had a 7lb 2oz blue trout from the bank of Cocks Close and this one came to a dry Sedge. Mr West of Coventry had a 10lb 14oz on a black and peacock Spider and this one was caught from a boat.

On Park Meadow pool, Messrs Malc Randle of Bedworth and Barry Waring of Exhall shared a boat and both took five fish limits and released a further six fish with the best of them weighing in at 5½lb. All of their fish were taken on black Lures fished on a long leader and floating line.

All of the pools are in great shape at the moment with fish moving all over them.
