TF_Gary the gudgeonHe is not good enough to make the starting team and only comes crashing through when he has his mates in front of him.If he is good enough to be an international then my cat should be playing.

TF_Gary the gudgeonMarkT, thanks for your educated reply, seeing where you come from I bow to your undoubted superior knowledge as to what constitutes the load you mention.

TF_SwimfeederGerrard is as good a choice as anyone, the fact is, England do not have a stand out leader on the pitch.
Luckily for England, managers win knockout trophy’s and not the players, in Cappello, England have a true leader and winner. -

TF_Leaky Lloydim sorry but i have to agree with gudgeon!
gerrards either absolutely fantastic,,or you dont know he’s been playing,,he’s too hit and miss for me and lets have it right,,whats he done this season thats been so special???????i honestly dont think there is anyone anywhere near as good a choice as JT
fair enough,, he’s had a bit of bad press lately over his private life, but whats that got to do with his football.
and lets be honest fella’s,, every single one of us would have shafted wayne bridges missus if she was up for it,, have you seen her?“OOOOOH SHE MAKES ME FEEL ALL NICE INSIDE”!!!

con2302ParticipantSorry guys but there are only 2 players in the England team that are LEADERS and that is Gerrard and Terry. Ferdinand is definately not a leader on the pitch and he is not the best centrehalf we have.

Nick DTerry should still be captain IMO.

TF_Chris OwenParticipantI agree with Nick, Terry is the man for the job.
We need someone with the passion of Butcher,Pearce and the like.
Rio is a puff and not that good a player in my book.
I am pleased you liked that one Ian.

AnonymousIn every game that Terry plays he will be doing the same job at the back that he did when he was the official England captain. He will still be the leader on the pitch and in particular in defense. Thats just part of Terry,s natural game to be the leader! Gerrard will answer a few questions for the press and TV and swap flags before kick off. Thats about the main differences to being captain apart from the honor unless the team win the World Cup. Being official captain should not effect the team and how well or bad the team plays. However, Gerrard will be seen as a god if England win the World Cup. Not sure how Terry would feel about that. Im not sure why ppl think its important who is the official captain of the England team but it makes no difference in footballing terms!
