For the 1st time in about 30 years I managed to be out on the 16th. The Twyford lads organised a little knock up (9 of us) at Wallingford downstream of town bridge and suprisingly….. it wasn’t that bad!

Hardly any Roach caught but loads of small skimmers, Brian Dart won it with 9-13-0 (skimmers on pole/wag), I was second with 8-13, almost entirely hand sized skimmers caught on wag. There were another 3 5+’s and 2 4’s. Now considering this was on a gin clear river on a scorching hot day we didn’t think it was too bad, especially considering some of the opening weekend matches we’ve had in last few years (4lb to win 1lb for sections). Good sign hopefully that the river might now have recovered from the floods 3 years ago.

Nice day all round apart from having to play Rawhide with some very inquisitive/agressive young bullocks in the field 2 of us were in…..

I bet Childe Beale isn’t as consistent on Sunday ! (prob giving it a miss)

Think the least surprising part of your match yesterday was that Brian Dart (saw him down the pub last night) was on 6m to hand and breadpunch- assume he just added a bit of depth to his Slough Arm rigs……

He was on the high bank bit (actually I wouldn’t have pegged a couple of them, one was about 10 ft above the water). I was sure he said he’d had some on the wag.

I’ll be at CB but expecting to struggle, I think the bottom end is better at this time of year, but then again with no Roach feeding it’ll be hard work wherever it is for most.

Yes, he did say he had to switch to the wag later on when the fish drifted out.

I might just give it an early start and look for a Colne barbel…

Earth calling MTB, what happened? (won with Bream is my bet)

Martin, you’ll have a chance with the Barbel I think, more than you would on the Pats these days anyway. The excuses for last season on the Barbel sites gave me a smile anyway. Took Bobby (the new ‘rescue’ youngest of the ‘hounds from hell’) a walk up Staines Moor last week and they were about, the BRPS weirpool might well throw up a Colne biggie 😉
