personally i think they lend themselves best to the method and straight lead, basically where the fish hooks itself. Although recently i have gone back to a PR36 when fishing the method for small carp 1-3lb and for bigger fish i use these.

I dont know why but i seem to loose a lot less fish using PR36 for smaller carp, im not sure why this is. having said that for larger carp the QM’s are awesome.

These are just my thoughts, everyone has there own.

used them on all my feeder fishing now, and on pellet wag, only hooks i use now on the rod, brilliant.

I dont get on with them at all.For the method/pellet wag i use Drennan carp feeder.Straight lead Fox extra strong.

Alex Bones uses them for shallow work, even the baggin wag

They are designed to be fished when the fish hook themselves, as opposed to you striking, so I would imagine any method were this happens will be ok.

i use them all the time but would only use them for straight lead work, i use different hooks for method or up in the water work

Hi Spotter, They are an awesome hook for both the method and lead work, as for up in the water iv’e been using them just lately for pole work. Where you only have to lift the pole slightly to set the hook or where they hook themselfs. I have been having quite a lot of success doing this. Give it a go!!!

I use them but only in 14’s and 12’s for method and bomb fishing. I have found that these two sizes work well for decent average sized fish on suitably sized baits. However when I tried using the 16’s and 18’s I found that I had lots of takes that either did not hang themselves or came off very soon after picking the rod up following a take.

I always used to use size 12’s and 14’s but on talking to Joe Carass at whiteacres he said he only used the 16’s and considering he had just weighed in 140lb to win Twin oaks i gave the 16’s a go and now use them all the time. For those who saw fishing Guru’s on sky all the Carp i caught on days 1 and 2 of the Carp Vs match were on a size 16 Qm1.

How long a hair are you using with the size 16’s Steve?

Short, so bait is just sitting off the back of the bend of the hook.

hi steve maybe you can clear up an issue for me regarding the qm1 hooks. i have been using these in a size 16 fishing the shotgun feeder with a 4 inch hooklength, short hair and a banded pellet and was losing up to seven fish every match , i have swapped over to the size 18 match wide gape and hardly lost a fish. puzzling ~think

Footplate, i really cant explain that at all. I can only tell you my personal results and they have been very good. What size are the fish and how many are you landing?

Won at Colemans today using the QM1’s caught 288lb and only used two hooks all day, amazing how sharp they stay even in bagging situations, the other hook got snapped on the bite so probably a nick in the hook length somewhere. As Steve has said keep the hair short and let the fish pull the rod right round before just lifting into the bite.

thanks for the reply steve, the fish im losing probably average 5lb and im probably landing around 10 ive used these hooks on another water and only lost half a dozen in a season, maybe its the way they feed because the water im on about is normally very clear. good luck sunday mate
