        Afternoon all!!

Could anyone give me an idea what to take for some evening fishing on the Llangollen canal? I am off for a week canal boating with the girlfriend and am allowed to fish (ye haa) a little. Dont want to be taking everything, just a small Rive stack and a couple of rods type approach. I was thinking along the lines of a whip or some short pole fishing with light elastic but also wondered about possibly fishing a wag with corn in the late hours for some bream or bigger fish if they exist?? Any suggestions or advice on depths good sections or tactics much appreciated.

        Cheers

        JP

Fished this years ago and moored in Llangollen town for a few days.

Best fishing was further up the canal than the last boat moorings towards the falls that feed the canal. The only craft along this stretch was a horse-drawn narrow boat which went up as far as the winding hole and then came back towards town which necessitated ducking under the tow rope as they came by.

I caught roach, perch and loads of quality dace on bread-punch and hempseed, as they are easy baits to keep on a boat. One day walking in the town I found a tannery (don’t know if it’s still there) and was able to scrape up a few maggots of the hides but I caught smaller fish on these.

Plenty of fish all along to the junction with the Shroppie, I had a good evening session near Wrenbury Mill, but remember that it’s the shallowest and probably busiest cananl in the country so very early starts or last-hour is essential.

if its the same one that goes through CHIRK, then it used to be quite fast flowing and full of dace.Used to fish it behind a pub in chirk.
